Diesel 428i
Long story short, my old man drives a diesel Mercedes. Yesterday he drove my mom's 428i. He stopped at the gas station to fill up, and got slightly confused and filled the car up with diesel. He drove a few miles before the cat started experiencing problems. It was an older station so for some reason the nozzle fit in the car. Local dealer wants $4k + in repairs. Reading online it looks like most charge around $500 to flush the engine. I think dealer, which I absolutely hate, is trying to take advantage of my old man. Since this isn't a warranty repair, what should he do with the car?
PS- This is all the info I have about what repairs need to be done.

Shouldn't be any lasting damage in any case. (Gas into diesel is another story altogether.) |

The dealership said you can not flush the system because tanks and pumps are one piece on this engine. Is this true?

I'd probably also change the spark plugs at some point...
On the flushing thing: I don't know what they're thinking... IMO there's no reason to replace either HPFP or LPFP or tanks - just run the system and it'll flush the lines back into the tank and dilute the remaining diesel in those lines to inconsequential levels. |
