Has anyone tried or would recommend this for coding?

I have had some issues with it.

Had to connected with iSTA to fix it.

it also lacks features. I would suggest doing it the right way and use ESYS

Carly has limited modules it can code at present, but it worked great on my previous E-chassis cars. ESYS is what I use now, although Carly will eventually add more modules. Its interface is a lot simpler, but ESYS is more thorough. Carly has additional features not offered on ESYS like reading and clearing problem codes, monitoring parameters (oil pressure/temp, coolant temp, etc.) and so forth.

On brief browsing of website as I have not personally used Carly, I was a little impressed how many options were codable through App. Comparatively, the plug-in-play USB coding that can be ordered is limited to just the head-unit.

As others stated, it is really best to stick to E-sys for the most control.

Carly - M240i

It looks like the F22 is now fully supported with Carly:

http://support.mycarly.com/knowledge...ab-content-1-2

As I don't have any coding specialists near me, and am looking for a pretty simple way to code my M240i, has anyone used Carly lately? What are your thoughts?

I've used the iOS Carly app on my 2016 M235i and been able to do most of the things I wanted.
Still a few things I can't do currently, but I expect to see them in future via updates.
The iDrive codings for example aren't possible on the NBT Evo (yet).

So far I've done:
Start/stop memory - car doesn't reset start/stop after turning off.
Door handle lights come on in reverse gear
Digital Speedo in dash
Disabled passenger seatbelt warning
Changed soft indicators from 3 to 5 blinks

In the future, I'm hoping for ASD disable, DVD in Motion, USB playback via USB.

The number of iOS updates thus far has been very good with a fair bit of functionality included in each update.

But ultimately, no match for a proper cable/laptop/software solution.

I only went for the Carly solution because it's fairly idiot proof. (Famous last words)

MyCarly for 2017 M240i

So I recently received my 2017 M240i. I purchased the myCarly BMW WIFI Adapter Generation 2 as well as the Carly for BMW Pro iPhone app, after noting that they were compatible with all BMW Series 2 models (F22).

I was able to set things up with no issues and tried to code several things in my car, including setting the digital speedometer with success. However, it appears that I only have access to code the KOMBI and REM modules, and no other (see attached). I am also unable to purchase the iDrive/CSC module coding option in-app.

For my reading of the MyCarly website before I purchased the adapter and the app, I was led to believe that I would have access to code additional modules, including FEM and iDrive/CSC module for my 2 series BMW. These are the modules where I want access to the most for coding purposes.

I've had trouble reaching anyone on the support team of MyCarly. Does anyone know how to contact them/him? Alternatively, is this something that is coming soon in an upcoming update to the iPhone app? Or perhaps I am selecting the wrong car in the setup since the 2017 F22 model is not available (I am selecting the 2016 model, see attached). Please advise as I was under the impression that this access was already available.

EXACTLY the same issues as me. I've been in contact with them on and off over the last few weeks. Lots of "try this please, now try that"...etc.

Finally they ended with "your Carly adapter is probably defective". So I have new adapter on the way.

I gave them an earful about how misleading their site was re: the F22 coding availability. In the end, if this turns out to be a crock, worst case I'm out roughly $120....so not a big deal.

BUT....If I find the new adapter doesn't pan out, I'll be back here advising others not to buy.

EDIT: you can email them via the contact info from their site. It can take several days before they respond.

Sorry to hear you guys are having issues - it can be a good solution, but obviously has it's issues.

My friend has a 2014 M235i and I have a 2016 M235i.
There are more coding modules available on the 2014 car via carly than I have on my 2016 car, so it is obviously to do with how new the vehicles are and the module versions that Carly is able to code successfully.
But I know more options become available with App updates (as they have for me already) For example I was only able to disable the seatbelt warnings on the 2016 car with the last app update, and the update before that, let me code the start/stop memory.

So rest assured, more functionality will come with app updates.
Also bear in mind, it's better that it doesn't show modules it can't code, than it would be to show you the modules, let you code them, and then brick the car.

I too was a little disgruntled with what the website led me to believe is possible on the F22 in regards to coding, but as i've been able to test on both a 2014 car and a 2016 it's clear that what they say is true, however, it does definitely depend on the year of the vehicle, as to what is possible, and I think they should make that clear on the website. for example a warning that reads: **Codings are dependent on vehicle year and some codings may not be possible on newer vehicles yet**

I have contacted support and found them a little infuriating but they do get back to you.

I hope you guys find a solution soon.

I've also got Carly and then Gen-2 adapter, but I've used it primarily to find/clear codes and other features. I've used E-Sys to do coding with no issues. They both do pretty much the same thing - read modules, back up the file, present the features that can be changed, accept the input, and write it back to the module. Using E-Sys with a cable is a more stable way to code, and it codes all available modules. Downside is that it requires a Windows pc/laptop and its interface is not as simple and user-friendly as Carly's.

I think you're 100% correct. I did leave out from my post that with each new app update 1 or or 2 new things were suddenly accessible.

So...hoping more 2016 app enhancements are on the way

Thanks for the replies! I'm sure enhances will be added to the app gradually over time. But I was fooled a bit by the deceptive advertising on the website that said all F22 models could be coded with no issues. This clearly is not the case...

I totally felt the same as you when I first got the adapter/app and couldn't do what I thought I would be able to do. I agree with you that the website is a little misleading (although technically it does code all F22 models, just not every F22 year) Fast forward a few months/app updates and I am more than happy now.

Think of it as a long term investment. I've coded a few bits for other people and they've been happy to drop a few £'s in my pocket to say thank you - it's amazing how many people want to permanently disable the stop/start in the UK!

Also don't forget it does more than just code - diagnostics (how much do BMW charge for that?) and parameters (real time monitoring for temps etc) which is useful too.

Keep us posted with your progress. I'd be interested to know what you've coded already and what you want to be able to do but can't currently.

I agree the website is deceptive. It is actually nice to read that they are following through with updates that unlock more features; I know that I was surprised by the list of options because did not believe all advertised was possible over adapter protocols.

New update to the app available today in fact. I don't know what's new or changed, but updated app nonetheless. I'll retest again once my new adapter arrives.

Is that an iOS or Android update sir?
I've just checked for iOS updates on the UK App Store, but there isn't anything yet

Keep in mind that the Carly folks are German, and their translations aren't always understood properly by us English-speakers. They do follow through on support, as I've had a few questions from time to time and everything has been answered or corrected.

Right, that would've been helpful! New update yesterday was for Android.

Ahh okay. No iOS update yet
Have you had a chance to try it out yet to see if you have access to more modules/features than before?

No not yet. I have yet to receive the replacement Carly adapter. Soon as it arrives I'll start testing again.

I installed the iOS app update (available on 11/22/2016), and I still only have access to only 2 coding modules -- - KOMBI and REM (see attached).

There still is no option to choose the 2017 F22 2-Series model (I have a 2017 M240i).

So it appears the FEM, CIC and CSM modules still need to be added by MyCarly.

Do you have to be connected to vehicle to show which ECU modules Carly can code?
