HK vs Stock system

Hey guys!

I know everyone says the HK is not worth the option, but in Australia, it's standard on the M2, and is an option for the M2 Pure. Can people explain the benefits the HK has, in terms of quality, bass, loudness etc. over the stock disregarding the additional cost.

Thanks!

What is 'stock' in Australia? Hi-Fi ('stock' on 2 Series in the U.S.), or the version below that ('stock' with 2 Series cars in the EU)?

What HK gives you above either:
- separate (very harsh) tweeters in the front and back
- about 10wpc extra (that's an average; some channels get more, some get less)
- slightly (emphasis added) better speaker drivers
- A different DSP tune, but no added user adjustability (unlike the Logic7 HK systems in BMW 3 Series and above)

That's really about it.

HK is standard in Canada, no other options.

Is that a recent change then because it definitely wasn't an option to add HK to the Pure when i ordered mine?

HK vs Stock

I just purchased a 2015 m235i AW with coral. I'm 99.9% sure it came with standard
6 speaker audio. It's not bad but for a BMW i'm not sure. My other car choice before the 235 was a new 2016 Golf R or autobahn GTI. the audio was pretty good on those cars.

So I guess my question is what are my options to upgrade since I don't have the
16 speaker HK???

Check out the general 2-series forum for info as there is a lot of discussion on this topic.
Also HK in all 2-series has only 12 speakers.

I have a 17 with exec pkg (HK) and I think it sounds pretty good. It's all relative though to what you're used to

Does 16 and 17 model years have different systems? I thought I remember reading that they changed it a bit

There's a thread discussing this already. Many seem to think so. I have a MY17 and it exceeded my expectations based on what I had been reading about it. It's not awesome but not bad either.

Another benefit of having the HK system, assuming it ships w/ the same amp in the F80/82/83, is that you can code alternate DSP (representing itself as B&O "Expanded") which, by nearly all accounts (on the boards and in person w/ my customers) significantly improves SQ.

Info's in this thread: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1322442

The people that say the HK is not worth the option do not know how to correctly use EQ or are using poor quality audio sources (eg BT Spotify or OTA radio). The system still has its pitfalls, but tuned correctly, and it is definitely worth it if one wants OEM solutions.
