2010 X1 2.3DXDrive fuel consumption issues

Hey guys,
I just bought my first BMW, 2010 X1 2.3D XDrive innovation, A/T with paddles.
106500km on the ODO, pretty neat condition.

Anyone else driving this? My fuel consumption seems really high - I've been averaging 8.2 - 8.5 l/100km combined with mostly extra urban driving between cities. I have a light foot, as I drive 110km every day to work and back and so aim to be as economical as possible.

I've had the car to BMW to run diagnostics and have the software re-installed, as they too believe the consumption is way too high for the vehicle, but with no other obvious explanation.

Is this normal for this car?

Can I do anything else to get it down to the 6'6 open road and 7.2 - 7.5 combined region people are claiming to get on these?

Thanks!
