F30 front door sound insulation seal
With all the creaking noise from the door seals, one might want less of these on our F30s. But I saw this post over on the 2-series forum and checked my F30 -- sure enough, my car didn't have this either.
Now, should it have had it? I think yes based on this: part number 12 -- 51487301069 / 51487301070 (and checking for the same on F80, it shows the same parts show in the "front" section (part number 2)) This thread claims it helps with reducing front tire noise -- which is very welcome on our infamous run-flats. These parts are cheap enough that I'm just gonna order and try, but I do want to ask the F30 family -- do you have this on your front doors? |

When the F30 models were first released we had a similar discussion over in the UK forum.
I remember visiting my dealer at the time and looking at the new cars in the showroom. Diesel models had the parts fitted, petrol models did not. Appears more for engine isolation than general refinement. I note 5-series have the parts in both petrol and diesel, but Fives are in a different class for refinement. |

Thanks for chiming in. So diesel is more likely to have them, but per marskiller, non-diesels do too. Mine's a US-spec so that could have to do w/ not having it initially.
In any case, parts are ordered, and I'll report back if there is a significant or even noticeable difference. |

Just reporting back after install. Installation itself was really simple, required no tools.
There is a noticeable dampening in the tire noise (I still have stock RFTs). I can't say there's a night and day difference in the overall noise, but it was enough for me. I've only driven on local roads so far, but for $35, I think it was money well spent. |

Would you mind posting a few pictures of your install? I've got one of the parts in and I'm afraid to say that I'm having trouble sorting out how they go on. Thanks, Bob |

The top portion looks just slightly different in shape. What took me longest was figuring out the orientation. The section w/ large horizontal cutout goes upward. The side w/ the part number print gets wedged into the slit in the car body, and the smooth side w/ vertical lines faces outward. Let me know if that works for you. Since I've already install the part, I can only show you pics of what it looks like installed -- if you still have questions on orientation of the part, post pics and I can help identify which way it goes. |

Right, I saw the pics on the 2 series forum too. I'd love to see your 3 series install too if that suits.
I just read your last post more thoroughly and that may help. I'll give that a shot. Do the 2 big indentations correspond to the 2 door hinges? If so, they don't seem to be the same distance apart as are the hinges. Does the end which has what looks like a nose or a beak on it go up or down? UPDATE: I've looked more closely and I think I have it sorted out. Thanks! Thank you, Bob Last edited by Bob@NC; 06-10-2016 at 11:58 AM.. |

And so dose it on wifey's 16 X1, Nov. production from Germany... Wondering if this is a regional different? |

Hey sorry I just got home -- congrats on the install.
On Howiegu's pics, it looks like the driver's side is installed much more neatly than the passenger side. My install on both sides looks much closer to the passenger pic. haha. My wife got in the car today and I also had a chance to drive on freeway. I thought the tire noise was reduced, but my wife didn't agree. Or rather, she just said, "if you say so". Possible placebo effect on me, but I still think it's quieter. Let us know your thoughts when you install both sides Bob! |

Will do. I haven't driven my car since I did my install on the driver's side. Been out of town, driving my wife's X-5. I'll drive it tomorrow. |

Update
Ive finally gotten both parts and installed them. I agree with Wheen that, to my ears, I hear less tire noise now. Can't tell any difference in engine noise, though. Overall, I think there is a very modest but noticeable difference in noise reduction. Worth $35 in my book.
