M2 VS M235i (EVO UK June 2016)

Not sure they like the M2 as a track car... Very interesting numbers though. Track is Rockingham Super Sportscar Circuit, 1.94 miles long with 12 turns.

The M2 is 2.3 secs faster than the M235i and 1.9 sec faster than the Focus RS, which is quite significant.

Saw this as well yesterday evening. Nice comparison, exactly how I think about the two. The laptime difference is staggering!

With that being said (and measured) I don't quite get why a magazine like evo says the M235i (M240i) offers 90% of the performance for 76% of the price. There is a much bigger difference between the two than 10%... If you read the text and look at the numbers, the M235i shouldn't be up to even 75%. At least they say that in the "conclusion" sentence as well.

Well, this will sort things out. Both the three great cars for what they're worth.

I'm starting to like the M2. A lot.

1:35.6 vs 1:38.9= 3.3 seconds or am I looking at different things?

Wow this thread is so popular, dunno where I have to start reading lol.

IMHO one of the best reviews of M2/235i, but the majority(overhere) thinks otherwise?

The guy in the helmet is Dicky Meaden? Great reviewer, one of just a handful great carjournos imho.

Now I have to look and find this particular issue overhere in the stores....

i like the review. It looks like the m2 auto vs the 235 manual. I am not sure its not clear except for the first para. The autos are faster in both cars we know that for sure

Agreed. They should have compared manual vs manual, or DCT vs 8AT.

m2 with dct vs m235 manual, why would a reputable magazine do a comparison of dct against manual? lost all credibility with me.

Probably because they couldn't get an M2 press car with manual for the test. But let's say the manual M2 is 1 sec slower per lap, it's still much faster than the m235 manual...

That's the (3.3-1=) 2.3 seconds you were reffering to off course.

Cheers

Still a good showing from the Focus RS, but more in line with reality as opposed to other ridiculous tests we've seen. I don't think anyone who buys an M2, Focus RS or M325i should feel upset. They are all good cars that punch above their weight.

Would be nice to see manual M2 vs manual M235i w/M-performance LSD (possibly stage 1 too)

I just looked at the 30-70mph times. Bloody hell... on par with the 542hp track pack GT-R, 550hp F-Type R and 493hp GT3 RS...

If you compare base models, the price is more like 86% and if you up spec the M235i with what the M2 offers standard, it's more like 93%. I think the M235i is only an option if you want AWD or convertible and do not want the 228.

Why does the performance table not have reciprocal numbers between any two models? What am I missing?
EDIT: The price table seems to be off as well.

Agree. I literally have a base model M2 at roughly $52K-$53K and you'd have to load up a few options on the M235i to get the same "standard" features on my M2. The price is pretty similar with the M235i being about $4K-$5K cheaper.

M235i is an option if you want a used / CPO car. It's cheap compared to M2 now. You can save an easy $20k and still have 4 years of warranty left

Both good cars, I'd have a 135i over a 235i though. OTOH I liked M2 over 1M since I first laid eyes on it. Anyway all great cars.
