Focus RS vs. M2, Focus wins???
Just bought the April edition of Autocar magazine, they are comparing these two: http://http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-video/ford-focus-rs-vs-bmw-m2-video-teaser
Focus RS looks like the winner, hard to believe... M2 drifts better, but a bit more numb compared to the more visceral RS is what they are saying. 5 stars for the Focus RS and 4.5 for the M2. Thoughts? |

Here we go again, another AWD hot hatch vs RWD sports coupe comparison. How about pitting the RS against the A45 AMG or the RS3? That makes much more sense. The M2 right now is living in a class of it's own, as it really doesn't have any direct competitors.

I don't care about comparing RS to M2, still a Ford plus the interior looks like it's from a minivan. M2 should be getting compared against Audi, Benz or Lexus, not a Ford.
I had a built Civic back in the day with 450 hp to the wheels but in the end, still a Civic lol |

Let's all be honest here for a second though: very few people after an M2 would actually consider buying an RS. Here in Canada they cost $47K and I refuse to believe anyone is dumb enough to pay that much for a Ford Focus, RS or not. |

It's a weird conclusion. According to them, the M2 looks better, sounds better, better build, better drives, better handling and the winner is the Focus RS.
They don't even pull out the old chestnut, £30k versus £44k. Just a weird conclusion. |

Be careful with those reviews as well, I have no idea if that's a valuable source or not, but a lot of those larger automotive journalists or whatever you wanna call them are paid good money sometimes to make one car sound better than the other.. I take everything they say with a grain of salt unless I know it's true or they are a reliable source.

As much as we like to think it doesn't happen, a lot of companies pay for reviews like this. |

Let's get real, the RS is severely overhyped.
A 2.3L, turbo, AWD, 4 banger is only good for quick 0-40 times. The DSG Golf R is faster in a straight line than the RS. Unless you live at the track, the RS will be underwhelming. I'm sick of these track comparisons to be honest, lets see some real world results. The M2 has got it beat in exterior/interior quality, sound, looks, feel, power, etc. Okay, the RS wins in utility Hell, I bet currently the M2 is cheaper than the RS! With Ford's ridiculous $5-$10k markups they about equal out in price. Ford has been really hyping up and marketing this car aggressively, I would honestly take the Golf R over the RS.

There's a huge take up over here with the RS because of Price/performance and there is ~ a 1yr waiting list. The price difference is around £13K and that's compared to a bare bones M2 and all the reviews are very positive,be that road or track and besting the recent favourite, the Golf R.
If price was of consideration I reckon I could quite easily live with the RS and forget about BMW...but that's an if. |

I've driven both and the RS was more fun for the time I had in it.
Granted, I would still have the M2 money no object but until you've driven the RS........... |

Seemed a bit slow I thought for well over 300 BHP but given my Fiat has only 220 BHP I don't call that a lot of progress in the performance stakes !! Pointless test really I think, very different beasts.
