328xi 2013 N20
when i drive on a very low speed i hear a whistle noise coming from Engine when I roll down the window I can clearly hear its from the Engine. Once I stop the car and still idle the noise will go a way.

Ps this only happens when the car is hot and weather is warm. I had the same issue last summer and by fall it was gone, now again going into summer it comes back again.

Any suggestion?

Could it be the diverter valve? What's the engine load or rpms like?

Is it a whistle or a whine? Can you take a video of the sound? My '12 328 had a whine and it ended up being the timing chain. I made a thread about it.

I have a whine at low speeds with a cold start. Gets better as the engine warms up.

BMW had an issue with timing chain on 2012-2013 N20 328's. I just had mine replaced last week on my '12, no more whine.

Is this just for the N20 or N26 too? I have a 2013 N26 and I get a bit of whine on cold runs too. Was it covered under warranty or a recall?

It was covered under CPO warranty.

mine only does it when its hot weather and on a warm engine.
I cant take video as it stops as soon as the car comes to full stop, it does that on a very low RPM and speed.
I will make an app with dealer and take it in, have bought an extended warranty knowing I would be driving way over my limited KM for the 4 years.

As far as I can tell, timing chain isn't a recall. How did you get the dealer to replace it and how long did it take?

It's not a recall, it's a service bulletin. The tech was doing an OFH gasket recall on my car when he noticed the sound. BMW had to do a PUMA but all in all it took a few days.

Hi Ottawa, Im having the same sound on my 328i Sport Line, its only done 6400kms, what do you suggest me to do, we have no BMW Dealer in Malawi and this car came in from Germany.
