Steering Wheel Drift

The other day I drove around a tight roundabout at slightly higher than normal speed. When I accelerate a bit during cornering (to the right) suddenly I heard a noise lasting about one second and the steering wheel turned itself all the way to the right which I corrected it immediately.

It's nothing highspeed but the road is wet that day. I just wonder if this is normal? Is it due to front tire slipping? And the noise I hope it is tire slippage noise rather than the steering rack grinding. The car drive fine afterwards.

Anyone has similar experiences?

Sounds like under steer. The noise you heard is probably a combination of the tire skipping, ABS, and traction control.

Yeah, think so too. I am not surprised at the front tires slipping (RFT) but the steering wheel turning itself thing is unexpected.

If the steering wheel was turning the oposite direction of whatyou were doing, are you sure it was oversteering? As that's a normal behaviour of the front wheels when drifting. You can google physics of racing and read on the chapter of the grip circle of the tire.

The steering wheel is turning itself in the same direction as the turn. I was like turning the steering wheel at 70% and then suddenly it goes 100% by itself.

It is definitely not drifting as the speed is low and I am only slightly accelerating...

If it suddenly steers more than your input, probably as xrave mentioned understeer. Not likely a technical problem.

Sounds almost like what you'd experience when hitting a patch of black ice, but I don't think you get those in HK. Sounds like slippage either way. Maybe there was something covering the road that you ran over, like spilled ice or sand or something. Understeering is unlikely unless you were going fast enough to break traction, which doesn't sound like the case here.
