Mileage for first oil change - F36

I got my 2016 F36-428i in January and I have about 2500 miles on it right now. When I start the car or look in the vehicle status, it now shows that the oil change is due in 5k miles or Jan 2017.

My question is, what is this notification based on? I thought the oil change was supposed to be every 10k miles.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Anyone with a similar experience?

This subject has been covered many many times, in many many threads. Please search. Terms include CBS, OCI, oil level sensor, and others.

The key is CBS: Condition Based Service. 10K miles/1 Year is the nominal/median interval.

Quick answer - the car's CBS system analyzes the oil and the driving conditions and decides when the oil should be changed. The annual interval is for the benefit of very low mileage drivers.

I plan on doing - at my own expense - an oil change at about 2000 miles.

I have done this with every new car I've been lucky enough to own. My feeling is that I want to get that break in oil and filter out of there after the 1200 mile initial break in and another 800 miles of initial unlimited revs. Maybe others will disagree, but I don't care.

You only break it in once and the $90 won't even be remembered.
