BMW and competition

Hey guys,

Saw something on the street the other day, and it made me think why I haven’t seen any BMW comparison to this vehicle lately. Perhaps I wasn’t in the correct forums. The car I am referring to is the 2016 Audi S6.

Saw it parked on the street near my work. Very understated, almost too bland. But it is an S6. I wonder, how does it compare to our terrific BMWs? Simple curiosity. I do see the Cadillac, Benz, and even the Camaro comparisons. But haven’t seen Audi. Lol. Perhaps they are out of the performance game altogether. I just don’t know. Haven’t even thought about an Audi in a while, and not many near me.
But anyone on this board have any experience with an 2016 Audi S6? In terms of performance, Quattro, 0-60, interior quality, and of course, the MMI interface vs our amazing I-Drive?

Let me know guys, would be interesting to see how this 2016 S6 fares against the M3, 550Xdrive, or dare I say even the M5? 

Take it easy on the Audi guys , it’s not their fault BMWs are so awesome!

Haven't driven the S6 but I did drive the S5 last month and I was actually pretty impressed by it. The interior is amazing imo. The seats are very comfy and the use of alcantara on the doors was a neat addition, as was the flat bottom steering wheel. It was a much nicer place to be in compared to the F3X. Problem is, the performance value in regards to the price point is ridiculous. The car I test drove had a sticker price of about 62K I believe. I personally would never buy it new seeing as the new 340i is close to it in performance. I'm sure the S6 is similar with the amazing interior.

I think you can compare the 535i or 550i to the S6.

S6 is a very fast car out of the box. Take it to APR and it's a monster. It's big though, a highway bruiser. I think they have the best interior in the Audi line up but they are big money. Very understated like most Audi's but from a dig, you'll need something with some serous power to stay close. While it may not look like it, optioned the way most people would equip the car, you're going to be looking at nearly 80 g's. S7 same powerplant but another 10 grand or more well optioned. The price jump from S4/5 to any other above line S car is significant. Well optioned S4/5's will be between $58-62. The S6 is a big step up in just about every metric save handling.

BTW, in terms of Audi performance S and RS cars, most of the best models are not imported to the US. The North American RS line up is always very small and rotates between the 3/4/5 series. Additionally, we got none of the performance Avants and probably never will.

S6 has tested quite a bit quicker than those two although I'd agree they'd probably be cross shopped. S6 will also be more expensive I think.

I have owned the S4, driven both the M5, S6 and 550xi.
The S4 is the best handling of the bunch but is the slowest.
The M5 may be the fastest in a straight line but feels big and heavy compared to the S6. The 550xi can't really be compared to the S6 in my opinion but it is the best cruiser of the bunch.

All true, however when you're pulling 3.8 0-60 and and low 12 1/4's bone stock, most cars are going to be slower. If I needed more space, S6 would be great but as it is, I'm thinking about going smaller. BIG gap in the Audi lineup for small sport sedan if you're not in love with the S3 which I'm not.

BMW has much more attractive 2 door options in the M2 and M235. The new TTS puts up respectable numbers but I just don't care for it. Perhaps the next gen TTRS.......... but that remains to be seen. BTW, 435GC has amazing lines, nice choice.

The order has been cancelled and will be getting the 440XI GC. The new B58 motor is more like the supercharged motor in the S4. The N55 motor had more of a lag and didn't feel like it pulled as hard as the S4. The B58 made a huge difference in feel in my opinion.
I liked the look of the 440GC roof line which in my opinion is more like the Audi S4 roofline that it is more coupe like. The 3 series is a beautiful car but the roofline is more upright than I am use too. This will be my wifes car. Setting her up so that I can get my manual P Car in a few years or a manual M3/M4.
If the 2 series comes with the B58 in the near future than that is what I would recommend to you unless you go M2 route.
I totally agree with you on the gap from the A4/S4 to a smaller sized Audi. BMW has much more attractive option in the 2 series. I also not in love with the new Audi grille. I liked the B8 S4 grille more than the new B9 grille and the new TTS grille.

+1

I drove the s4/s5 when shopping for wife's 335 and the lease on similar msrp Audi were $200 more than 335. Nice cars but not enough that I'd pay extra.

I'm super biased but I have a tough time picking anything other than f80 m3 via euro delivery for a new car in the low $60k price range.
