Hi, can anyone else with Orbit Gray 398 (if I remember correctly) style wheels tell me if the paint inside the wheel bolt "holes" is missing like mine?

I believe that's normal... even my 442M Orbital Gray wheels aren't fully painted like what you've shown in your pictures.

The wheel bolts would strip the paint if they painted it all the way to the back anyway.

My nephews 320 looks the same way.... but I needed to get my nose 6 inches from the wheel and use a flashlight to see it. On the car you can't tell. Off the car you see it but I'm not sure why that bothers you.

Consider yourself lucky to have not noticed, my attention to "detail" is annoying.

I just put my 442M wheels back on for the summer and noticed the same thing as you, so looks like its normal.

Also over time water sites in those holes forever and can degrade the paint, its not really a great environment for paint.

I think this is pretty normal. I've seen this on just about every wheel, not just BMWs.

Also remember that the wheel needs to get painted, and it's not simply just dipped into a pot of paint. Typically, they're airbrushed, and in tight spaces like that there's only so much coverage airbrushing can get.
