Fail: Describing the 2002 as "the first production car to use turbocharging". I realize the idea that we Yanks could come up with something first is off-putting to the TG boffins, but GM was sticking turbos on the Corvair's flat 6 and the Olds' aluminium block V8 10 years earlier.

You're absolutely right. We came up with many things first.

This is great, but I consider the E46 M3 as the real "parent" of the M2. An eventual comparison is inevitable, but I'm surprised it's taken this long!

You mean applied 1st, the turbo was always a European invention, if not wrong by a Swiss guy.

Less than 1 year of production because they were very unreliable..... GM came first but then stopped for over a decade cause they couldn't make it work.
Let's say... you've tried first but failed, Germans made it work 10 years after for first

for those who don't want to read the whole thing this pretty much sums it up:

"Right now, though, the M2 is almost exactly what you’d hope 40 years of blood, sweat, tears and technology would result in. BMW has just rebooted the ultimate driving machine."

I second this....and I find the M2 a suitable substitute, with enhancements!

The attempts at playing on the presumed superiority of a nation, or make fun of tired stereotypes truly have no place in a conversation in this millennium. So GM got there before BMW, but didn't invent the turbo. Big deal. Move on.
