Coding out the double pull on the door handle

Hey everyone,
I know the double pull on the door handle is a child safety feature, but it drives me and passengers crazy. I asked the dealer to code it out and he said no (because of safety). Is this something I can do (DIY)?
Thanks

Thanks pikcachu. I'm trying to prevent pulling on the door handle twice to get out of the car. Even when it is unlocked, it requires a double pull.

No it doesn't... if the car is unlocked it will open with single pull

Double pull is first to unlock and push the lock pin up, then to open the door

I just tried it. Both doors unlocked. Both need to be pulled twice to open. I'm wondering if this this a California safety requirement. I'm going to put a call into BMW.

That's really weird....

makes no sense as a safety feature either... you would think a kid would be smart enough to pull the handle twice anyway

BMW genius not much help.

"I hope you have been enjoying your Ultimate Driving Machine. The vehicle seems to be functioning as designed. As far as I know, BMW centers do not have the ability to code the vehicle to perform otherwise."

I really doubt that. The door handle is a purely mechanical mechanism and works the same everywhere. If the door is unlocked it will open with one pull.
I'm sorry if I sound pretentious or anything but make sure the lock pin is UP meaning it is unlocked before you try next time.

I coded my doors to unlock when I turn the engine off and the radio and iDrive turn off when opening the door. To end my drive I press the stop button which unlocks the door. I pull the handle once to exit which then turns off the radio and iDrive. No more double pressing the stop button or double pulls of the handle.

Ditto BentZeros experience - I coded unlock with engine off. When I hit the stop button, it only takes one pull to open the door. If the passenger tries to get out while engine is still running, it takes a double pull.

@Gabrola, very little in a modern BMW is a "purely mechanical mechanism", even things like this that you would absolutely think would be purely mechanical.

Yes I do know that, I have lots of experience working on BMWs. For example the trunk handle is actually a button which sends a signal to the computer to unlock the trunk lid and if your battery dies there is no way to open the trunk lid from the outside.
However, the door handle (the opening mechanism not the locking mechanism) is purely mechanical. The door handle is simply a manual pulling mechanism on a Bowden cable, there is nothing electronic about it, not even a sensor.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot that I used to have to do that.

I would have thought the double pull to unlock is more mechanical than electric, hence can't code that out....but i could be wrong ...............

It's not changing the mechanical element of a double pull to unlock the door on the first pull then release the latch on the second, it's coding the car to unlock the doors when you shut off the ignition.

Then the first pull of the door handle releases the latch because it's already unlocked.

If the car is still running and you want to exit it's still a double pull.

This and the speed in BC are my two favorite coding changes. Oh, and turn off radio when opening the door. Now i only press the stop button once.

You can turn off the auto lock through iDrive so you don't have to pull the handle twice.
No need to code anything.

And ride around with unlocked doors? :/ I believe someone has brought this up before. Idk. I've coded it and thus I'm a super happy boy.

You can have someone do it remotely for a reasonable fee. Just order the cable @ $10 - and find someone who does it - a post here will net you several offers - they log into your Windows laptop, download the software, and code away ... Or you could look at the coding specific forum here for some go-bys.
