Front Plate and Ticket
Anybody in Colorado get a ticket for not having a front plate? My wife just got a $75 ticket parked on a street in Denver.
What options do you guys use for a front plate? Does placing it on the dashboard make it acceptable?

Yup. In Denver they will ticket no front plate. I just park in garages in downtown to avoid it. Also they will ticket you at DIA if you back into a spot and no front plate. FYI.
I have no solution do we just risk it. |

You could get a tow hook plate mount and put it on when you park in those situations.

Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately this happened on the street in front of my house. So either I need a more permanent solution or never park outside my house Bummer

I hate front plates and refuse to put on on my m3. It's just a risk I take, knock on wood, no tickets YET! I'm down south in Pueblo and they aren't to tough on enforcing it here. I will say though, I did get a ticket in Denver with my S4 last year for no front plate.

Even still, I refuse to put a front plate on. Hate the look. I'll deal with the occasional tix, and when in Denver or DIA, I try to park with front in, against a wall.

You know, I have to ask....I admit, the car looks better with no front plate on it, but how much better? $100 better? $250 better? $1000 better? Because those are all amounts that you could end up playing if you get one or more front plate tickets.
I'm doing quite well financially, thank you very much, but throwing away money just because I don't want a front plate on my car makes no sense, financially, or otherwise, to me. Of course, everyone's opinions are different, but still.

Do the front plates need to be on the front bumper?!?!
Im in Socal, most of the time you can get away with having no front plates. But Ive had my share of tixs for sure. Usually happens when parked at metered spots.
Im not too fond of the towhook solution. I have one but never put it on cuz i dont think it looks good and read it messes witht front parking sensors. I have it as last resort. Ive been thinking about putting the plates inside the cars front window on passenger side, tucked on the bottom corner, but wonder if I will still get ticketted... My plates are the black legacy plates so it will blend better inside. Any one here know if plates need to be on the front bumper? Or have done this and still have gotten a ticket?

I use the Sto-n-Sho, that's a bit less obtrusive than the motorized plate.
Unless you lie down in front of the car, you cannot see the bracket. Additionally, it uses two existing screws to mount. So, no additional holes needed to be made. |

I've seen some cars around BC with what looks like a colour copy of their front plate, but as a sticker. Anyone seen this as well or know what I'm talking about?

I've been looking into this and was told it is only an issue when you are parked on street or other publicly owned parking; e.g., you won't get stopped as a primary reason, but if you are stopped, you will get ticketed.
Not so sure that a "sticker plate" would meet the law. For what it is worth.... CRS 42-3-202 states: Number plates assigned to a self-propelled vehicle other than a motorcycle or street rod vehicle shall be attached thereto, one in the front and the other in the rear. Of other interest: (2) (a) Every number plate shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle to which it is assigned, so as to prevent the plate from swinging, and shall be horizontal at a height not less than twelve inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of such plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible. Also....if you are thinking that you'll just call your M a street rod, according to Colorado law: "Street rod vehicle" means a vehicle with a body design manufactured in 1948 or earlier or with a reproduction component that resembles a 1948 or earlier model which has been modified for safe road use, including, but not limited to, modifications of the drive train, suspension, and brake systems, modifications to the body through the use of materials such as steel or fiber glass, and other safety or comfort features. CRS 42-3-201 lists the only exceptions as: (A) A motorcycle; (B) A street rod vehicle; (C) A trailer or semitrailer; (D) A vehicle drawn by a motor vehicle; or (E) An item of special mobile machinery. (II) At the discretion of the executive director of the department, the department may issue one number plate for any vehicle not listed in subparagraph (I) of this paragraph (a). I guess you could petition the executive director of the department, but I don't think it is likely he/she would grant an exception....but who knows, if you could make an argument sufficient enough to compare a "street rod" to an M car, it may work. In my opinion, there is no reason that a "street rod" should be exempted and not modern cars with similar mounting issues.
