2017 Camaro SS 1LE

Track-ready package for everyone's favorite mullet-mobile. Recaros, 6 piston Brembos, 305 section rear tires. I'm torn on the styling. Also, visibility sucks.

Camaro SS 1LE

The 2017 Camaro SS 1LE introduces the new FE4 suspension to the Gen Six Camaro – a performance-oriented chassis system with specific tuning for the Magnetic Ride dampers, springs and stabilizer bars. Additional highlights include:
• 6.2L LT1 V-8 rated at 455 horsepower, and six-speed manual transmission (automatic transmission not available)
• Magnetic Ride Control
• Segment-exclusive electronic limited-slip differential with 3.73 ratio
• Unique forged aluminum wheels with 285/30ZR20 front tires and 305/30ZR20 rear tires
• Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires with a compound and construction developed exclusively for the Camaro – offering exceptional grip on the track
• Brembo brakes with new six-piston monobloc front red calipers – featuring the 1LE logo – and two-piece rotors. Measuring 14.6 inches (370mm) in diameter, the front rotors are 7 percent larger than Camaro SS
• Track-cooling package, with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers
• Suede steering wheel with shorter-throw shifter
• Dual mode exhaust system
• Recaro front seats with aggressive bolsters optimized for shifting and steering comfort
• Satin black hood, front mirrors and unique three-piece rear spoiler
• Satin Graphite front splitter and rear diffuser
• Available PDR video/data recording system.

A friend of mine tracks a ZL1 a ton. It puts down some very nice lap times.

Consumables are high as you could imagine.

It's certainly a terrific value. I'd get one if i had unlimited garage space.

The previous 1LE had the wrap as well.

Did the usual Sunday car dealer tour = no salesmen bothering you. ...checked out several GM dealers and the camaros they had out. All of them were autos ...quite simply sad to see not one manual .

They had a demo SS at my local dealership. Took it for a gentle test drive. Exhaust sounds exceptional in sport/track mode and the interior doesn't need intervention. The finance rate was exceptional and probably could have received 2 corporate discounts of a few thousand off.

After the oil temperature was good on the final stretch, gave it near full throttle from 20km/hr. There are so many gears there really isn't any build up to redline.

The hologram/artist description on the windshield made me a bit cross-eyed so would probably opt out of that feature. Also wasn't sure if the music I listen to matches the interior surround neon lights. Pretty good choice to save $25,000.

Since I'm number 15 on the list for an M2 (ETA 3 years), I'm thinking I can just get the 1LE and sell it when the M2 is ready. Or keep it if I fall in love. I like the stance.

Looks better compared to old Transformers gen but I would never buy this car, too huge for my taste.

Nice car but your last remark is an understatement and interior quality is utter shit. For track exclusively it wouldn't matter though.

I sat in one at the auto show and found the interior to be comfortable. I actually prefer it to the ATS-V. Compared to the M235i the plastics were harder but hey, you get a temp gauge.

It was never meant to compete with the full leather M4 interior, and unfortunately there's not much one can do about the visibility, other than purchasing one of these advanced blind spot systems..

Garage List
Test drove a 6MT one of these. Very tempting. I couldnt knock it anywhere, interior felt better than any F series car as well.

Wow, it looks like they changed some things in the 2017 that I really hate about the 2015 SS.

Cup holders are farther over, meaning you might actually be able to change gears with a stored drink. They also appear to have dropped the lower console dials which were basically unreadable from the driver seat (especially oil pressure).

I imagine visibility is still horrible. Also curious if those seats have adjustable bolsters? (They don't in the 2015?)

The SS performance exhaust sounds awesome...for short periods. I wouldn't really want to daily with it, but thats subjective.

Can't believe they didn't fix the visibility when they had the chance. Veto's the car as a candidate for me regardless of dynamic attributes.

It has blind spot monitors and a backup camera and they also made minor changes to the windows and pillars for a minor improvement in visibility. I didn't have a visibility issue with it when I test drove the 2016 SS.

Interesting. Guess I had better go sit in one of the new ones.

I have been eagerly awaiting both releases since announced. Both cars look to be fun street/track vehicles.

I have owned many performance cars (VW's, S4's, SRT8, P 944t, etc) including several V8 Camaros (85' z28, 90' 1Le Z28, 94' Z28, 01' SS and 10' SS) and BMW's (2 E46 ///M3's 03.5' & 05', 135i, 330xi). Just about all were modified above stock form, some very modified. The obvious difference with the two brands is the quality of materials. The GM products are blunt objects as the germen products are solid, well engineered vehicles.

A few things to consider here are price, the 1LE will likely be about $10k less. Power, the 1LE will likely be tangibly faster. Handling, might be a wash. It really comes down to what is more important to you. To me the Camaro is pretty bad ass, however it might be priced a little high. I know the price has not been released but expect to pay an MSRP of $42-43k. The M2 will likely simply not be fast enough to keep me interested and the fangs are just too overdone.

Honestly with the release for the ZL1 (also a 2017 model), the pricing might be more line with the M2 and will likely crush just about all of it's competition. For me the two GM offerings are good enough for me to stay American for my next purchase..

Flame suit on...

Umm... You're kidding about the ZL1 pricing, right? It's going to be at least 65-70k base.

We will see... If it is near 60, it can still be cross shopped with a low to mid 50k car... This thread is comparing two cars that will have a similar delta...
