Vibration feedback in steering
Hi all
When I had the test X1 XDrive25i (variable steering) I noticed a slight vibration coming back through the steering wheel mostly when straighten up out of a corner. It feels like a fast pulse vibration. (like the vibration you get from your IPhone on vibrate). I am also experiencing this with my new X-Drive 25i (variable steering) I gather it is something to do with the X-Drive sensing the traction change from front to all wheel drive as the rotation of the wheels are at slightly different speeds and the steering inputs and this generating this vibration. Does anyone know if this is normal? I have the F20 125i with variable steering and it does not do this. |

It's the lane departure warning -- part of the standard driver assistance package (edit: on Australian models)

Yeap. If you have either of the two driving assists packs (5AD or 5AS), it's your lane departure warning kicking in. Nothing to do with xDrive.
You mentioned straightening up out of the corner, so you're either going over road markings or are too close to them. See PDF manual page 123 or search for "Lane Departure Warning" in your interactive/onboard manual. |

It is doing it even on non line marked roadways, so I do not know what to make of it I will try turning off the driving assist package and see what happens If it is normal and part of the system, I will just get have to get use to it |

Yeah, it's one aspect of the assistance package that, when I test drove, I thought I might want to turn off.

I dont have driving assist pack but I have colision warning and traffic signs recognition. traffic sign recognition is one thing that I didnt expect to have, I thought that it is included in extra option like driving assist. So is it possible that I have another surprise option connected with camera on front windscreen?

It seems that some importers choose A different standard.
In the Netherlands is active guard (5AV) standard and comprises Speed Limit Info and Approach control warning. So you will get the front camera. Regards, Marcel |

Standard feature and options vary from one market to another. Could be due to local regulatory reasons, marketing, etc. For example, the cold weather pack in the US and Canada is not available here in the UK.
I may be wrong, but I think driving assists camera is the same one used for auto high beam. So yours could very well be a camera based system. Satnav is standard over here. Models without driving assist use the satnav data. |
