Replace F48 halogen headlamps and foglamps with...?
Folks,
A newbie to BMWs and this forum. We recently got the 2016 X1 (US spec), and really enjoying the ride. We didn't get the Premium package due to several reasons, financial being one of them. We wish that BMW offered "lighting package" separately, because we miss not having the LEDs. So, my question to the experts: What mods can be done to replace the standard H7 halogens headlamps and H8 foglamps with "superior" lights? We don't want the racer-boy "blue lamps" - but rather something that looks classy, white-ish, and generate good amount of light. Any suggestions? |

You can upgrade the halogen bulbs. Anything else will either be crazy expensive or cheap and blind everyone since it's a halogen light canopy instead of s projector style light. BMW sells a $60 bulb upgrade but I believe others said they were just A Phillips or Sylvannia bulb that you can get cheaper at the auto store. Be carful with upgrading your driving lights. You can get much brighter bulbs but brighter means more heat and in such a compact design has lead to people melting the driving light assembly.

I can confirm BMW Genuine H8 fog lamps are in fact Osram Cool Blue Intense bulbs (64212CBI) that come in a BMW box instead of an Osram box! They also cost twice as much!! I guess it's the cost of the cardboard box. So... if you're replacing your fog lamps, don't be gullible like me. Just buy the Osram off Amazon. Alternative Philips' H8 have the same colour temperature as 64212CBI. But they cost slightly more because they have a longer lifetime (not as important for fog lights as opposed to headlights). See comparison photo here: http://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=22
Not sure about the regulations in the US. But bulbs cooler than 5000K aren't allowed here in the UK. Can't comment on headlamps I'm afraid. I can only recommend buying a reputable brand (e.g. Philips, Osram, GE, etc.). Cheaper ones tend to overheat and may damage the plastic parts in your headlamp unit. |

Thanks for this info. Is this true for all F48s (with and without LED headlamps), or only those F48s which have the LED headlamps?

Very helpful - thank you. The F48 owner's manual says that low beams are 55W H7LL (H7 long life), and the high beams are 55W H7. If I replace my current halogens with Philips X-treme vision H7s (http://www.powerbulbs.com/us/product...on-130-h7-twin), can the same bulbs be used for both low and high beams?

Just to clarify, I meant the replacement BMW Genuine blue halogen H8 bulbs (part number 63112359505) are Osram 64212CBI in my previous post. |

I have halogens on my 1 series.
Philips lasted very short, maybe 3 months and Osram much longer, still on it. I put it on low beam lights. I think that high beam shines very bright no mather which bulb is there. |
