Leather = perforated seats?
Two dealers have not been able to answer this question. Is the new leather perforated in all of the X1's or is that an option? Are the seats that I'm seeing that are not perforated actually sensatec?
Thanks! I'm not sure I want perforated seats with little kids---I want to say I can avoid them eating in the car, but it won't last! |

No, I've been seeing them here (U.S.) ---perforated. I only started to look today to see if what I was seeing was leather vs. sensatec. The dealer today only had three cars to check so I still don't have a solid answer. The one with leather had perforated, the two sensatec were not. |

Interesting. My dealer has both leather and Sensatec and both are non-perforated. But certainly not uncommon for them not to have a solid answer...I've encountered similar "not sure" answers to my questions about the X1 I just ordered.

Yes the leather seats are perforated and Sensatec is not. Sensatec may be a good option if you are worried about kids making a mess in the car.

Leather seats are perforated for US model X1 as well. Perforation is only on the seat backs though.

So with that lesson in mind, I opted for SensaTec in the new X1. Having taken Euro Delivery in Munich, I'm actually pretty pleased with BMW's current iteration of SensaTec. It's not quite as "leather-like" as Mercedes' faux leather, but it's darn good. More importantly, I won't be quite as upset next time my son spills Fanta all over the back seat

As for wear and tear, I do not think that the perforated seats will wear out too quickly as they only have the perforations (graduated) in the upper part of the backrest (centre/center and inner sides). The seat base and sides are full leather.

I might also add that my experience has been that BMW typically uses very durable leather. It's not soft and buttery but it stays looking great for a very long time. Conditioning the leather every few months helps as well.

I was wondering about conditioning the leather especially now as my seats have perforations. Won't they get a build up of conditioner in them over a period of time?

I've bed using these pre-moisturised leather wipes in my MB with perforated leather, and find them pretty good and easy to use. One sheet can clean both front seats. Doesn't get into the perforations. I use the thicker conditioning cream of same brand for steering wheel.

It just depends on how heavy the conditioner is that would determine if it would get in the holes. I tend to use leather wiped cause it doesn't go on so heavy.

They do a very good job of protecting and conditioning without depositing too much of the product. I usually use a microfiber cloth after that to move the product into the surface and remove excess, then I use a lambs wool pad to finish off. That helps to seal and protect and also makes the seat feel softer with use without any slippery feel. |
