Video started out nicely ... Im assuming it is couple years old because Steve is not with Dinan any longer.

He talks about how you will not be able to use piggybacks on new BMWs and that Dinan is building their own standalone ECU. I wonder why Dinan changed their plans and decided to go piggyback after all.

By his statements in his video on the Dinantronics it was due to the increasing encryption issues they were encountering and the time it was taking to break it and get product to market for new models.

Steve still consults engineering on various development although he is no longer part of day to day operations. This video was shot back in May or June if memory serves correctly though (sometime in late spring at least) but the /Drive channel and this series was a paid only subscription until this morning, hence the late unveil to the masses.

Maybe i missed it but i did not see him talk about Dinantronics. He talked about a standalone ECU which is a solution to getting past all the encryption

Good to know, he is one of the best BMW tuners in the world
Any reason why you guys decided to go with piggy instead of the standalone?

Did not talk about DINANTRONICS directly but in a few of the video sequences there was some clips of the boards, units and what not. This video was shot after DINANTRONICS had already been on the market for about a year (we are are about a year and a half after the initial DPT releases at this point).

Standalone is still the future once the ECU's and data systems are completely locked out from traditional flash or piggyback tuning. Cost effectiveness wise though it just isn't their yet.

Ironic, the video that begins with "Steve Dinan's been tuning cars for 30 years, and he's got no problem sharing" was paid subscription only for the first 4-5 months after it was posted.
Regardless it was certainly informative, thanks for sharing.
