VirtualDyno
Hi
Has anyone else in here played around with VirtualDyno? I just tried to compare a run on the road with a dyno run - both @ 16psi. VirtualDyno is matching the dyno result within a few hp and 50rpm - I am pretty impressed! Will definitely play around with this some more Yes yes yes, this is not very scientific, but for comparing modifications on your own car its pretty good I would say.

As with any tuning tool, you are looking at changes (delta) Absolute numbers aren't that important. So if you do before and after a modification you should get a general idea of gains even with the virtual dyno.

Hi Harkes,
Funny you posted this ia I've just been making the same comparison with an other dyno app PerfExpert. I also just got my car dyno'd as you saw over on N54tech.com, the result are pretty similar too. PerfExpert Showing wheel HP (this can be changed to crank hp in app) at crank translates to about 420hp Dyno Dymamics showing HP at the crank Last edited by copperman05; 09-25-2015 at 07:23 AM.. |

Just make sure that you always use the same road for the virtual dyno and you do not lose traction at all.

I also have PerfExpert but find it less reliable than logging with JB4 and then using VD. PerfExpert is relying on the acceleration sensor in your mobile where as VD...well no need to explain further.

Harkes, just used the VD and well its was pretty damn close.
Virtual Dyno 427hp and 489lbft (crank hp) accounting for 17.5% drivetrain loss which is about right for the M135i Dyno Dynamics was 428hp and 481lbft can't ask for much more than that! |

Hmm doesn't work quite well for f30 cars as they are too new apparently. Doesn't include statistics on it. The 8 spd auto need a separate configuration.

From my experience, it does not show either. VD is helpful to compare delta, do not count on it to give you accurate HP numbers.

I "calibrated" my setup to show crank hp. You can do whatever you want. There is a "dyno factor" you can change if you want to deduct those ~15% drivetrain loss.

You can chose your own ambient temp. 25°C vs 35°C is a power los of 2%.

Select options in 'file' and the dyno tab, under 'Dyno Correction Factor' you select custom, and enter in the required data.
1.00 is calibrated as VD I wanted to add 17.5% drivetrain loss so entered 1.175 in the custom field. for 15% is would be 1.150, etc.

I am using 1.00 to match my dyno run with my street run. With 1.00 I also get 328 crank hp on stock ECU so this is spot on I would say.
If I wanted WHP instead I would use a factor of 0.85.

Harkes, do you know of anyway to edit the .csv files? I have the Dyno Dynamics dyno run logged on my JB4 but there is other data in the log that interferes with the VD results.

You will get a weird result using the dyno .csv in VD. Obviously because its two very different "worlds" What you should do to calibrate your VD, is to do a run IRL in same gear as on the dyno and then tweak VD to match with your dyno peak numbers.
