2016 A45 Review by Chris Harris

Interesting review, this revised car will be a major competitor for the M2. Especially for those who live in areas prone to bad weather.

The AMG just does nothing for me personally. Between not sounding great, no 6MT ect ect, I just don't have any interest. As I've said a million times, I think when the Focus RS comes out, I think it'll really shake the market up.

First time seeing the BMW stand at Frankfurt. That's insane. Looks like they built a mall in there. Oh and that Honda concept is so damn cool. How much fun would that be?

There are a thread in the general forum where Dackelone posted A LOT of images from the BMW stand.

It's a FWD car that can send UP TO 50% to the rear wheels. That just doesn't cut it.

I agree AMG without manual is not ideal, but I do like the car (to a certain point)... Apart from the interior and ride, but a cracking engine.

But I don't agree with the focus RS will be M2 rival very far from it. It will more be a rival with civic type r and Renault RS. Can't really compare a car that's going to be half the price!

No, I don't think they directly compete, but I have a suspicion that the Focus RS will be punching above its weight.

I don't think I'd buy one as I hate the interior, but it's a very interesting car nonetheless.

Yea awful interior, I'm sure it would be a great car to drive, but would hate to be in that car every day!

Will have to see when it comes out

Still one of my favorite OEM wheels of all time. But my goodness I hated cleaning those things, what an absolute pain in the ass

Cool hatch. I'd check it out if I were looking for a hatch.

Speaking of ZCP wheels, I think they'd look awesome on the M2...worth the cleaning effort. Rear offset is pretty aggressive though.

And they made no secret that they considered the 1M as a benchmark.

Here's what the Merc AMG R&D boss said back in 2012 during a test drive of the first gen A45 AMG prototype
(source: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...amg_prototype/)

----------------
We could hardly have picked a worse day for our first encounter with the A-class on steroids. From the start, the rain is pouring down on the scantily disguised, white A45 AMG, which returned only this morning from the torture chamber known as the Nordschleife. [...]
[R&D chief Tobias] Moers takes no time at all to find the limit of adhesion [...].
As we time-warp through Germany's green landscape, Moers talks about his pet project. "After years of dealing with rear-wheel-drive cars, the A-class was something totally different, something I did not look forward to at all in the beginning. Five doors, a gutless four-cylinder engine, terminal understeer -- you can imagine the thoughts that crossed my mind. But I soon realized that this was a unique opportunity to rewrite the rules, to set new standards and eclipse the competition. From day one, I wanted this car to better the BMW 1-series M coupe." Such potent competition spurred Moers to pump up the four-cylinder's output to extreme levels: 350 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. [...] The most significant game changer in the new A-class is its specially tuned 4Matic four-wheel-drive system. In the A45, it channels 60 percent of the twist action to the rear wheels, thereby reducing torque steer and understeer through slow first- or second-gear bends. This rear-wheel bias is particularly obvious with stability control off, when power oversteer can be induced quite easily, at least on drenched blacktop. Unlike the BMW 1-series M, which assumes sideways antics at the mere mention of the word "corner," the A45 handles in a more sophisticated and diversified manner. "Controllability is the word I was looking for," says Moers, dialing in just enough lock to complete a very subtle four-wheel drift. "We have done a lot of work to make this car more drivable than its competitors," states Moers [...]

Two people that miss details.

An all wheel drive vehicle that can send up to 60 percent of power available to the rear..

Front wheel drive - not in that sentence at all

It might be An FWD chassis , but clearly not an FWD Vehicle

Possibly. But there are also talks about the 2er getting it's own platform so that it can remain RWD
