Taking car into dealer with catless DP

Hey guys -

I have some weird noises coming from my suspension and want to get it checked out. I have a catless DP on right now and am a little worried about taking it in with that.

Thoughts?

IMO don't do it, even tho is not related to suspension at all if in the future something else happens you are taking the risk of having it blamed on it.

That's the question I struggle with myself. Luckily I've had zero issues but even with routine maintenance I bring the car in bone stock. I have heard that most dealerships don't care if the mod has nothing to do with the current warranty issue item, like in your case. Maybe ask the SA and try to get a feel what they think of mods.

You could just take the car to an independent shop and have them take a look and if it's a major suspension problem then remove the DP and take it into BMW. Could be a simple cheap fix.

That's what I was thinking as well. I might opt for that route. I took it into the dealer about three weeks ago completely bone stock and they said the suspensions was perfectly fine. I keep hearing and feeling some weird things, so I want a second opinion. Might just go the Indy route..

You can always call and ask if the dealer is mod friendly. That can always save you some time instead of going somewhere else. Your car should be under warranty correct?

Yes, I am under warranty for another 8k miles. Would you recommend calling and asking for the SA and then explaining my situation or just asking straight up how they treat mods and warranty?

Unless you extended warranty or you expect that dealer to take your car in when you need a new I wouldn´t care one bit.
Don't do it if you expect to do business with the guys later on.

Here's BMW's stance which was relayed to me from my service manager.

If a component's failure can be shown to be the result of an aftermarket part, it (the broken component) won't be warrantied. If we (service dept) can't tie it directly to the aftermarket part, it will be warrantied.

In OP's case, his aftermarket DP is obviously not tied in together with his suspension. The service dept. would have no reason whatsoever to investigate his exhaust system.

Thanks for all the input guys! I am not worried that they will deny my claim for suspension, but rather flag my car for voided motor warranty. However, seems like they are pretty reasonable when it comes to cause and effect for mods.

well my car is fully modded, they prolly have a million red flags on my car but I knew what I was getting myself into and I really don't care lol. I havnt had an issue with my dealership, they've even replaced a TMAP sensor and my DME despite all my mods.
