Manual Oil check

Due my first track day in the 335i and while the electronic way of checking oil is nice I would rather check it manually before I vmax the car.

However I'm unable to find any information on it. Surely there is a manual oil level check still

Nope, none at all. They eliminated the dipstick beginning with the E90 series.

Change the oil if you are concerned, but there is no physical way to check depth.

A good buddy of mine has a high end car shop...specilizes in german and italian cars. Mainly a porsche shop but works on lots of BMW and Ferrari's. He was not a fan of the electronic dipstick when BMW went that direction. However, he now says it works great. He has checked the electronic display and then emptied the oil and measured the quantity and he says it is very accurate. He didn't think it would be accurate so he had to test it out himslef. When the BMW cars say "add a Litre of oil" it is perfect. He has never seen anyone come into his shop with a BMW and it is really low on oil. However, he has stories of cars with traditional dipsticks coming into his shop with vertually no oil.

The biggest problem he has seen is customers over filling the oil. He says he will get at least a car a month that someone has filed with too much oil. The car is running rough and the owner doesn't know why. Again, pretty hard to do this with the electronic dipstick.

He is a seriously obsessive mechanic. If he says the electronic display is reliable then I would say it is okay to trust it!

Ok, great, but wouldn't adding a half a quart when necessary be even better?

its still a good bit above the minimum level line so i dont see any harm in the car waiting till it needs a quart.

Actually...I would say you could easily do that. When the electronic dipstick is at the half mark add half a quart.
I would assume the engineers in Germany have made sure the engine is still good when down 1 litre of oil.

I believe only diesels have dipsticks.

I meant get the pop-up notification to add a 1/2 quart.

It's all good. If those engineers think it's OK to be a full quart low, who am I to argue?

Ya no issues running day to day down 1L, but obviously if the add oil warning comes up its best to do so at your earliest convenience.
