My car runs much better on my stock intake :(

Anybody else notice their car running smoother with their stock intake vs. aftermarket?

I have a '14 N55.

Went with Injen, then BMS.

BMS sounds sooooo good but i was have sputtering issue's after installing my JB4 & down pipe....

I miss hearing the surge of air but i'd prefer having a better running car....

I remember seeing your post about Injen and the BMS tune being a problem. I went the aFe Magnum route and have no issues. Drives like a dream...a dream that squeaks and rattles (not due to the intake, lol).

I see you're in SD. I'd love to check out your ride sometime. Although maybe not...might make me spend more money lol. Curious about the down pipe and JB4 combo, though!

Where in SD are you?

Also have the magnum force intake from AFE with dry filter, no issues here (have had it installed for approx 10,000 miles)

Do you have a high flow drop in filter? I don't find my performance to be hindered all that much with a stock box and drop in filter.
I have a JB4 and about to go catless after I get my inspection sticker.
I noticed the ER charge pipe added a nice intake sound with my set up, have you replaced the stock plastic garbage BMW calls a charge pipe?

Drop in air filter and scoops gets you more air with the stock box.

If you have a JB4 there is a work around for the intake issues some are experiencing.

Probably cause your engine heat soaks like mad and the BMS intake sucks in hot air like no tomorrow. Need intercooler or its kinda just for sound. I just bought the drop in filter and I installed the OEM intake on now. Gotta log and see how it performs.

Why would BMS design a product that heat soaks so badly and performs more poorly than the OEM part?

The heat soak stuff is a non issue. Post fmic IAT is around stock intake levels. The problem with the F series N55 and virtually all intakes is related to the MAF sensor readings. The best way to fix it is with a JB4 using the OBDII firmware that allows you to run without the MAF like an N54 engine.

Well, its a simple and cheap intake for sound and aesthetics mainly. Also it does perform alright in the winter when the temps are cold. Also if you have a proper intercooler you will have no issue. The BMS intake will pull more air in as long as you can keep your IATs low. Its not exactly a design issue but more on the limitations of the car as the stock intercooler can't really cool shit. Most of the open intakes have similar issues. I just ended up going with K&N drop in filter, since I won't have an intercooler up for this year. Plus I can't really hear the intake anymore after my exhaust and DP make my car so loud that it drowns out the whooshing sound.

I had the same issue with my 2012 F30. I spoke with Jason at BMS and he replaced my intake. The problem disappeared immediately. Might want to reach out to him.
