No luck finding a good price on MPPK in Houston.
Looks like the best I can do in Houston is $1750.00 installed. Thats a little more than I wanted to spend being that its not a necessity. Has anyone here found a better price in the Houston area?

I did ask one dealer if I could purchase the MPPK elsewhere and have them install but the only response I received was a price on buying everything from them. The dealer reps I have talked to have been very nice and informative its just the pricing is a little more than I want to spend and is a little high compared to what others on this board have paid. That's quite a steep price, not sure it's worth 30 extra hp for $1750..

I had a JB on my 2008, never had an issue and the car ran great. This time I dont want to chance voiding my warranty on a daily driver. If I can add a little power at a reasonable cost ($1400 or so) without effecting my warranty that would be great.

I bought my MPPK from getbmwparts dot com (Tischer BMW) for less than $1K, had dealership install for $100. I installed the engine cover, lower intake box, and the stickers myself to save another $100 over what they'd have charged to do those additional tasks.

I'm in houston as well, all the dealerships are gonna be overpriced. Try getting a quote from European Legacy Motors off on Blalock/i10, ask for Peter. Great guy, good prices, and constantly updates you from his cell phone. Provides transportation as well.
Recently had my performance suspension and alignment done for $500, I doubt getting the mppk installed would be even more |

Sorry...what "MPPK Warranty" are you talking about? There is no additional warranty with the MPPK, and installing the airbox is a 10-minute job. I had a complete installation guide from BMW. The dealership said if I installed the engine cover and lower airbox myself, it would save me some money. I suppose it depends on what kind of relationship you have with your SA and the dealership itself. I had outstanding service from them (BMW of San Antonio) and continue to get that same level of service from my current dealership (Schaeffer BMW) where I live now. You're overthinking this!

The reason why people go to MPPK over a cheaper/more powerful option is warranty. They want to keep their engine warranty. In the remote possibility of your engine blowing up, and filing a warranty claim with BMW NA, corporate will initiate a process to make sure your engine is stock, or if not, that ALL extra parts are BMW and dealership-installed. They will look at paperwork. No matter how easy, or well-done, your own installation of the air box is, this will give them a way out of the warranty contract. Which they will exercise or not at their discretion. I have dealt with way too many warranty claims over the years, to know that once you turn the tables and you request something from a large corp, all the nice local people you were dealing with while spending your cash, are gone and replaced by the corporate bots following very well-documented procedures. Trust me I would install the software, the air box and everything myself to save some cash, but then the warranty premium I'm paying over JB4 is a waste of money if I can't exercise that warranty. All this is aside from the point that the quotes for MPPK purchase and installation mentioned by the OP are ridiculous considering that the software download/flashing takes 1 hour of "labor" and the airbox, engine cover, and stickers/decals take approximately the same amount of time and could be done simultaneously while waiting for the software install to finish. You can buy the MPPK for less than $1K, and anything more than a 1-hour installation labor charge is grossly overcharging the customer. I dealt with BMW of Houston North when I lived in that area, and they were always very reasonable; same with BMW of Austin and BMW of San Antonio. No experience with the dealerships in Dallas.

The "installation" I refer to above is the software upgrade; that's the part that the dealership has to do.

Don't know what to tell you on that one. Maybe they have a lot of cars ahead of you or something like that. I brought my car in at 8AM and was out of there by 9:30. Flashing your ECU couldn't take that much longer than mine did.
