Passenger Air Bag Light

My passenger air bag light (beside the sunroof control) never comes on. It use to come on and only go off when a passenger was in the seat like it should. No other errors, car is a 2010 328xi. Should i be concerned about my passengers safety? How do i fix this? Thanks.

There was a recall on the 06's and 07's in the US

There was a recall on the 06's and 07's in the US
It means the sensor in the seat is bad from all the reports.
It can happen in any year but only 06 and 07 is covered in the
recall I think and only in the Sport Seats.

the seat sensor has been replaced once before under warranty before i bought the car. i dont have sport seats, only the regular seats.

i though with a bad sensor that i should be getting an error on the dash or the seat belt warning for the passenger should be going off?

If it stays on with no passenger that is a problem

The mat is probably compressed which keeps it always on. Maybe it was not installed properly?

Unlike the defective mat, which turns off airbag protection for the passenger, it is not dangerous (just my opinion), given you do not let objects on the seat when there is no passenger and never install a crib/infant seat in front. If you have an accident the passenger airbag will trigger, even if you do not have a passenger, which will increase significantly the repair cost.

it did work for a couple months when i first got the car, but then it gradually failed. Shouldn't the seat belt warning be going off if the mat is stuck on?
