Stock exhaust with catless DP?

Hey guys --

Just picked up a 2012 F30 335 sport line and want to start adding some mods. First things first, it's way too quiet and I want an exhaust. However, exhausts are quite a bit expensive and I was wondering if I can keep the stock exhaust and add catless DP's? Will that make a difference?

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Yes i strongly recommend starting with downpipes. Car will sound much better with the DP

Thanks for quick replies! Now I just need to find some bigger tips...the stock ones are so small. So excited to be back in a 335 and let the modding begin!

Also, can you explain the "Golf Tee" mod? Sounds incredible!

The Golf T mod simply just allows the second pipe (left) to remain always open... instead of only on Sport mode after like 4-5k RPM.

Sounds louder, but its the downpipe that really made it louder.

How do you do this mod? Is it difficult? Also, any DP's that you recommend?

Search F30 golf t mod, you'll find tons of threads on it. Many ways to do it.

For the DP's, I chose a High Flow Cat, because a catless will be more smelly and I dont want an angry wife. However the catless will be louder, but I'm more than happy with my HFC.

Challenge, Racewerks are popular typically..but there are others I'm sure.

A tune like the JB4 will have the golf T mod down via software and you will need it anyways to suppress the CEL from the downpipes, so start with a tune then go with downpipes. ER makes a great high quality set. Either catted or catless.

Is an intake necessary right off the bat as well?

Not 100% necessary but some form of intake mod, whether drop in or full intake is recommended.

Could not agree more. A DP (catless or not) and a JB4 have got to be the best bang for your buck performance mods on this platform.

Thank you much! This makes me think twice about getting a DP...not sure if I can afford to get a FMIC and Chargepipe with it right now!

Then don't. Use Map 1, and hope you don't need a chargepipe. You certainly don't need a FMIC upgrade right off the bat.

Do the DP and JB4 for under $1K and go from there.
