The day has finally come, ESS S55 flash tune is ready! Now taking appointments for flash tuning.



A well-respected name in the tuning game, ESS Tuning has announced their S55 Performance ECU Software for F8X M3/M4

ESS has built some of the fastest BMWs in the industry and continues to carry the tradition with the introduction of their performance software for S55 powerplant. As Southern California's premier ESS dealer, we were among the first to receive the Stage 1 software to put to the test on our in-house dynojet to verify results on a completely stock 2015 BMW M4 test subject.

The F8x M3/M4 in particular packages a phenomenally designed engine with two small turbochargers for excellent response. ESS’ software focuses on maintaining the S55 engine’s excellent response, while increasing power in a fashion that does not push the factory turbos outside of their efficiency range. In being careful to operate the original turbos within their efficiency boundaries ESS yields an impressive power increase without reducing reliability.

Expert calibrated ESS Performance ECU software for the 2015 M3/M4. Tuning is performed at our facility in Anaheim, CA. For those not local to our facility, your DME can be shipped in for bench flashing and returned via Next Day Air.

So that dyno graph is just a stage 1 flash tune with no mods? Is there a stage 2 flash tune with DP's?

Only Stage 1 at the moment, as Stage 2 requires larger turbos.

This seems like less agreesive tune than ess e-tronic especially after 6.5k rpm.
Do you have to physically modify stock ecu unit in order to flash?

Less aggressive, but does not change the driving characteristics or pedal feel. Power delivery is smooth as butter. Power numbers are meaningless if the car is difficult to drive, which we found with piggyback controllers most times.

The ESS flash tune remains within safe zone so that the DME can keep all failsafe conditions in check, making power reliably and consistently each and every time it's pushed on the street or on the dyno - as the DME has full control over the engine, even our Awron gauge display provides the correct numbers since no data is being manipulated. The computer needs to be removed and flashed on the bench for programming, we're already doing this for locals as well as flashing DMEs that have been mailed in, overnighting them back. Those that see higher octane at the pump (91 in CA) should see slightly higher gains.

On an unrelated note, we tuned Howie Kendrick's MY15 X5 (Dodger's fame) last week, it instantly feels like an M5 pulling on the highway with no other mods (yet). Would have loved to get dyno numbers if it wasn't equipped with xDrive, but the butt dyno says it feels like a 600hp monster.

In the meantime, we're flashing another M3 today, and a couple more this week. We'll get today's flash up on the dyno after some miles.
