Car cover or not?
Ill be parking my car outside for a month. Chances of bird poop are slim but the air is dusty and greasy (close to a big restaurant area).
Heard stories about car covers doing more bad than good scratching the paint etc. Experiences are appreciated - Niels

I think you're in the wrong section. Maybe post it in cosmetics!

If it's going to sit there for a month straight then maybe get one. Make sure you can lock it too. If you will be using it then I would not bother. Just wash it a few times and no problems. The biggest pain in the ass with covers is you cant even (or shouldn't) put them on unless the car is spotless.

Once mine was sitting in the airport for long, (not under roof), I wrapped the trunk, roof and bonnet. Then you don't get the small wear marks from the cover and cost is about the same. It's also very feasible compared to paying for the covered parking area. /Krelle

B) have detailed and protected with ceramic coating or just polish + wax C) cover it, ensuring its tied round the car - some covers have this built in. I used cloth wraps round the bonnet and boot to hold it in place. D) do all the above I've had mixed results with covering long term. If the covers not breathable moisture builds up. If it's windy you end up swirl marks where it rubs. If in a public place it stands out and maybe subject to cloning/stealing. I've also used an airflow chamber - admittedly indoors but there are outdoor versions. Doesn't really stop the rust or dust, and is a pain in a*se to get in and out of. Laterally I've put paint shielding film on, properly cleaned it, hooned it ( to make sure no moisture on brakes) and finally parked it away from trees, bird roosts and in the shade (difficult!). |
