Volume on 2009 328i radio has a low volume max?
Hi guys.
The lcd in the radio of my 2009 328i was dying, so I was going to buy a replacement lcd and put a new one in. I found them priced for about $120. However, while looking, I found a used radio from a 2009 335i. Same part number, except my original had a -01 at the end and this one has a -02 (what does this mean?). This was somehow cheaper than replacing the lcd. Anyway, the company I bought it for said the part was interchangeable, and I verified this in a few places. I installed the new radio, and the lcd works great, the sound is clear, but the maximum volume is rather low. Is there a difference between the -01 and -02 that is causing this? Is the radio broken? Is there a way to fix this? I also tried the Aux setting and when I plug it into my Samsung galaxy s4 it has a loud hissing noise and you can barely hear the music. Thanks! |

May not be programmed for your particular sound system there are three basic types.(and or options) (See above) Also the display can be fixed . Its a common failure. I was going to replace the lcd, and actually had looked at the guide you linked me to do so. I ordered the lcd in the tutorial.. turns out I didn't have a CD73 radio even though it looks exactly the same. I think the coding is the issue. I have HIFI, and I think it's set to TOP Hifi. Only reason I got a new radio instead of a replacement screen again was because the radio was selling for $20 less than than the replacement lcd piece, so I pay less and don't have to take the time to replace it.
I looked through the links... do you know where I could find someone to program it? Or if it's even possible (some posts were saying it might not be on the newer models?) Can I program it myself, is there a place I can borrow a cable so I don't have to pay over $100 for that? Should I make a post in the coding subforum? Thanks! |

You could try the coding section first

Are you sure you have the pro radio. Bimmertech can do it but its 130 which would be OK for most people. Usually a US Radio will be coded for Hi Fi or L7 and the people that had one coded for L7 generally don't get any sound. Are you sure you don't have the ampless base stereo . |

My VIN indicates I have the hifi stereo system. I made a post under coding, and haven't gotten replies yet. I've seen some posts that say that they might not be able to change this due to the fact that it's a newer model?
I mean... 130 just seems like a lot for coding. I don't think it should be that hard or take that long to do to change the audio system setting. The radio works fine, but I think the volume should definitely get louder than it is. Wish I could get some instruction to do this myself. I'll message bimmertech, though. |

So I contacted Bimmer Tech and they said that it costs $130 and then another $300 refundable deposit to return their programming interface. This sounds like a time consuming process.
I called my local BMW and they were even less helpful. I got transfered to 4 people before they said oh you have the wrong part. I told them I had the correct part number, and they said that they probably couldn't program it, but they could "diagnose" it for $85 and then if they thing they can reprogram it it'll be another $127 and that there are no guarantees. What a joke. Please someone tell me what I need to do to reprogram this myself. The radio works, I just want to be able to increase the volume! Thanks! |

You need to go to the coding boards
You need to go to the coding boards
and either find a local coder or buy a setup and learn to code. If you are not a little bit of a Hacker and good with PC's this may not be an option. If you do this on your own it will take lots of time. There is only a small chance a local BMW dealership can do this they are not very flexible with programming if it doesn't work with there one way approach you will be stuck. If you are in or near a large town like maybe Portland you should be able to find somebody to help. If you are in Portland go by MusicarNW they have a lot of experience with BMW's Its much easier to change the display when this happens or send it to someone that can change it. I'm good with computers and know how to code. I just haven't found anything in the forums about how to change this setting. I'll keep looking and if all else fails I'll order a new lcd and return the new head unit.

I have been told all you have to do is a SGreset to get the FRM and Cas modules to reload your original vehicle order back into the the individual modules. It might not work for you but try sg_reset like ctuna mentioned or sg_codieren on the 2urad module. You don't have to read the file just reset it back to default.
