Center Jack Points

Are there approved front and rear center jack points on the m235i?

My friend's E46 has a spot under the engine and in the back by the diff that can be used to lift the whole front/rear from one spot. It makes it really easy to get the car up on 4 jack stands on the 4 side jacking points.

If not, are there approved spots on the frame to place jack stands if the 4 side jack points need to be used for the jack?

I think you can still use the diff spot... and then for the front, you lift the rear lift point and put the stand in the front lift point, then lift the other side and do the same... and then lift from the diff and put the 2 stands for the rear...

The BMW Shop Forman told me that there is a center jack point on the front of the car you can use if your floor jack is low enough. You need to be careful not to be forward (toward the front of the car) of this point as there are power wires under the cover for the steering rack. He even marked it for me on my car and took pictures. Great dealer!

And how about the rear? Is there a center lift pount their? I've always been leary of using the diff because it stresses the diff bolts. The E36 has a steel mount that wraps under the diff. No such mount on the 2er.

The crossed out part is the differential cover, you can't jack it up from there. You must jack it up from the differential itself.

Just dont do it by the diff cover on the rear, only the bottom.

Where did you find that photo? I've always believed you should never jack anything up from the diff, but if that's an official BMW image, I guess maybe I'll be converted.

From BMW's technical docs on their diagnosis software.

Very helpful, thanks. Used to use the diff all the time, but that was on 'primitive' cars and I was worried about it on the 228.
