Who tracks their car and if any issues experienced?

Just want to get a feel on how many members here actually track their F80/82.
And if so have you experienced any mechanical issues while tracking these beasts?

edit. wrrrong answer. These cars seem to be pretty reliable for now. Don't know how turbos will hold up long term.

I get out 10'ish times a year. Only out twice in the M4 so far. No issues whatsoever. Seemed pretty bullet proof to me.

Lots of variables in this discussion, however... choice of brake pads, fluid, ambient temps, driver experience and ability, track, etc, etc.

Just did this last Sunday. Did about 60-70 laps between 4 different sessions on a smaller tight course. Felt the same throughout the day. No issues during or after so far. Lots of brake dust though, which happens anyway.

6 track days for my M4 and pretty much bullet proof so far, as all my other M3s before it .

We had 95degF weather on Friday. Oil temperature did not budge. Did not feel too much heat soak either, but I did lose about 3~5mph in the afternoon at the end of the back straight compared to the morning sessions. But that should be expected from any engine going from 60degF to 95degF ambient temp.

Did you go to BIR? Just wondering what other tracks are in MN. I went to the DCTC small track in April with my M3 and it was amazing.

Was DCTC also. I agree, it was a lot of fun! BMWCCA had an adult car control clinic last Sunday. It was Very well run and look forward to many more track events with them or other groups.

Ive done 2 and so far so good. Oil temps are rock solid. Car will need brake pads and better tires but that was expected when i placed the order

EDIT: My only time so far is 3:40 at Spa. Hate to make excuses but it was wet, 35F ambient temps and my 3rd day with the car

Unless it was same driver in both cars, it would be hard to get meaningful data. I'm faster by about 1.5 to 2 seconds on a ~1:20 road course in my F82 vs. E92. However, I may also have slightly improved my driving skill from then until now too

To put it in perspective, if I were to summarize my times in my last 4 cars as estimates relative to one another, it would look something like this...

C7 Z51 - 1:19
E36 M3 (track prepped) - 1:19
F82 M4 - 1:21
E92 M3 ZCP - 1:23
C63 PP - 1:24

Nice! My only complaint is that track is in pretty rough shape. Would it kill them to repave it? my tires were not looking too pretty afterwords lol. I wish I would have stopped by to see all the local ///M cars, I live only a few minutes away from there.

So far I have only done 2 days in one weekend at Mosport.Overall I am very impressed with the overall balance of the car as it is extremely well balanced with a staggered setup on it.Much more power & torque than my E92 M3's had and it is an extremely easy car to go fairly quick in with very little drama.I have a bit of a braking issue to deal with as it was having a long pedal but I am sure I will get that sorted with fresh fluid.I am going as fast on street rubber(AD08R's) with undersized rims(Stock) as I ever went in my E92's with R compounds. Overall I have to say I am quite impressed.

Yah, I'm sure they have a limited budget like most schools. I know what you mean about the roughness though. I looked at it as a learning experience to deal with the rough braking/accelerating areas.

There was a nice variety of cars there. A brand new M235, a couple of E9X M3s, an E46 M3 at least one E36 M3 and also a few standard E36/46s. Also a brand new C7 and a heavilly modded C6 Vette. Topping it of somebody had a Cayman S, which was fun to watch/listen to.

I've done a few fast autoX days (80+ mph) as well as a single 2day track weekend in 75-85 degree weather. I have pagid RS29, Nitto NT01, and ate dot4 fluid. the car did great but I need to make sure I torque the brake caliper bleed nipples to spec next time as I was leaking fluid after session two day one. my fault. I did also get the "ice pedal" later on in the weekend as well, or what I BELIEVE was the ice pedal anyway but didn't have any bad outcome luckily.

I couldn't outrun the pesky 997 turbo and turbo s or 997 gt3 in my group but other than that I had a lot of fun and the car did great! the f80 was as much fun as I had in my e46 m3 (lowering springs, street tires. brake pads and fluid only).

Annoying for sure. Don't know if I'd call it a "major issue" though. All that being said, I think if I was to order another F82 with plans to track it a lot I would definitely order passive suspension. If you're going to put coilovers on, the EDC would have to be deleted/coded off anyway.

I've had the M4 to the track about 8 times, and other than the aforementioned problem, the car is fantastic. You cannot get this car hot, simply amazing. Look up my other threads at Arizona Motorsports Park for more details.

Tracked my car last week at Castrol Raceway (near Edmonton), and had a couple of issues.

Tires - Stock Michelin PSS started chunking.
Brakes - Getting some wheel judder on the street afterwards which is probably caused by pad buildup
Engine - Got 2 drivetrain malfunction errors on different sessions. Car drops into limp mode and I had to get into the pits, and turn the car off/on to reset. I have JB4 without the fuel connector installed (causing me fuel trim issues), and I got a drivetrain malfunction on Map 2, as well as on Map 1. Both times, my low fuel light was flashing at me which could be a culprit.

Here's a video of my last session of the day. Out there with me was an E92 M3, E46 M3, a couple Z4M's, and an Evo. The car performed really well.

Boy the barriers are sure close on a lot of that track with little margin for error!We approved this track as I am a consultant for the Canadian Trackday Insurance people.
