Another Competitor for the M2: M4 with a Competition Pack?

I'm expecting the M2 to be more of a sporty drivers' car than the M4, but now I see rumors of an M4 competition option or an M4 GTS. The new options/versions of the M4 might be interesting to me even tho the price would be significantly higher than an M2.

This will be an interesting Fall with all the new cars coming out!

All things considered I might be game on this instead of the M2. Let's see what the M boys cook up. Only if I can get it in manual, of course

Rumors?? The competition package is a given that will be on the M3/M4. Not a rumor at all. details of the Comp pack will most likely come out next year.

BMW has not confirmed anything because it is still too soon.

e46, e90 and 92 M3's had a competition package. You can bet the f80/82 M3/M4 will also. This is almost a given. Historically the comp pack is relieved sometime after the LCI M3's start rolling in. Until then we have to wait for more information.

I generally agree that its a very strong likelihood, but until BMW confirms it I'll only give it the status of rumor/guess/speculation.

What has been the cost of the comp package in the past?

The M3/4 has plenty of traction problems as it is. Not sure how a comp package, which typically bumps up the HP/torque, will "help" unless it includes wider, stickier tires.

Scott26 had said look to the BMW safety car to see what technology will the M4 GTS/whatever, will have. The water injection, wing, and other things. So, essentially the Safety Car is a preview of the M3/M4 Comp/GTS.

Very good news!

My gut tells me that the GTS will cost close to $75k base, maybe more, but I read up on the MotoGP safety car as recommended above, so I'm putting one of my blonde daughters on Ebay.

$75k? 0 chance.
The last GTS cost more than a Porsche GT3 FYI.

Just to be clear, there's a big difference between the Competition Pack and a full blown GTS/CSL model.

Indeed.

A CSL may cost you an arm.

A GTS may cost you an arm and a leg (so it must get DCT, otherwise you can't drive it ).

Really, which competition package on the previous generation M3s added more HP/Torque?

An M4 anything is not competition for the M2, it is another level entirely.

True, but the M2 maybe better at handling than the M4, and more enjoyable.
And most importantly to some, look a lot better. Aesthetically, the M4 is a bit challenged with that long greenhouse. The M3 looks better balanced.
Would be nice if there were side by side comparison shots of the e30 M3, e36 M3, e46 M3 (classic) e92 M3 (just right), F82 M4, 1M and the M2 (and add in the all three generations of M6 and the 8 series for good measure). One would see how the greenhouse of the M4 looks really long, and in some angles, you wonder if BMW really just wanted to just make it a 4 door coupe but didn't add the second doors.

What?

If you have no idea what you're talking about, why are you posting?

Edit: I see this has been addressed.

I'm not sure that's true anymore given the size of the M3/M4.

Is an M5 (the best 7 series yet!) or an M6 on "another level entirely" vs. the M3/M4?

With the M3 and M4 continuing to increase in size...eventually a lower model can overtake it as the driver's car of choice...if the E82 1M didn't accomplish that already.

Would you really say the E90/92 M3 is on another level entirely vs. the 1M? Many would argue the 1M is the better driver's car.

I made a mistake, relax. Being rude is the bigger problem, you should work on it.

I do have a hunch that the comp. package on the F80 will include a modest HP bump...
