Best RPM to shift for maximum MPG?
I turned on the shift point indicator for the first time today and I noticed that it asks me to shift a lot later than I normally would. I usuall shift at around 2,000 rpm but the shift indicator sometimes doesn't even ask until I'm past 3,000 on small hills. On flat land, however, it does ask me to shift pretty early.
Should I be shifting later on hills for better mpg? It feels weird hitting 3,000 rpm in normal driving no matter what condition I'm in. |

I was just going to say, if you're driving your 335i in ECO mode the whole time, just drive all the way to the Grand Canyon going 55MPH and don't stop.
Sorry, it just defeats the purpose of a fun motor. Luckily with direct injection in our motors you can drive like a grandma on the highway and get some pretty efficient gas mileage. Your car will do all the calculations based on your trip, it tells you all the avg fuel consumption, etc. |

There is no magical shift point necessarily as it depends on the road ahead.
But, most gas is wasted between shift points and unnecessary acceleration. The key is just using least amount of pedal to maintain speed and avoid boost. |

Diesel > Gas
MPG/Torque Monster and in my area Diesel is less than Premium Gas (93)

go into eco pro mode and shift when it tells you. When you have 5 stars on all categories go to your local Toyota and buy a prius cause that is what your 5 starts unlocked for you.

I have MT. How do you get rid of shift nanny? Or is it always there?

By the way, I think I've officially given up on the quest for better mpg. Spending $50 more a month on gas > being frugal and driving like a granny |

I'm happy to spend $100 a month in wasted MPG. I can't think of a better way to spend that money having fun.

How many times do you guys go past 3k RPM on a normal day ? Do you guys always drive on Comfort mode ? Or is it feasible, acceptable to daily drive on the Sport or Sport+ mode ?
I always feel bad when I floor it + I'm leased... |

At or under 1500 rpm on the highway - cruise and eco pro on. Music at 11. Gives 55+mpg (UK gals) for a straight six diesel. At 70+ I was struggling to get 50+ mpg out of a Prius though others claimed nearer 65mpg.
For twisties sport + on, auto to manual, music off, change up at just before 5.4k. ASD kicks in Mpg drops to just over 30mpg ... But |
