Active Sound Coding
Hey all,
I know this has been discussed some but I couldn't determine if anyone has had the problems that I have. I recently got back my M235i that I picked up in Munich back in February - maybe some of you have read my blog! Of course I wanted to do some coding as soon as it got back, all of which has been quite successful. I wanted to hear the "M4" sound in my car for kicks and giggles - does not match the car well at all. Even my girlfriend commented that it sounded fake. So I changed it back but seem to have disabled Active Sound in the meantime. Now I can only hear the engine when I roll the window down. Can someone help me see my error here? I have tried to re-code it a few times and get no errors but still no luck. My next step is to unplug the ASD module and replug it in. |

Does the value stay in N55B30 when you read it again? |

No difference; it's definitely off. I don't remember changing any other settings. I just switched it back to F80 and S55 and it returns. Back to F22 and N55 and it's off completely.

Well... you could right click on the ASD ecu and select "CODE" (not code FDL)
that will effectively code the whole ASD ecu as it came out of factory... Make sure you don't "CODE" the main "ECU" root....or you will be coding all the ecus to stock.... |

Pikachu, thanks for your help! Unfortunately, that still did not solve the problem. I think next step is to try unplugging and replugging the ASD unit in the trunk. Haven't really tackled it yet but I have read that may help. Can't figure out how to get the carpet out but haven't really looked that closely either.
Any other ideas? |

That should be ok.....
Maybe meet up with another m235 and see if you actually can notice the difference around 2.5krmp when switching back and forth from comfort to sport.... Given that S55 activates the ASD I would have to say that you are not able to tell the difference between the stock ASD and ASD off.... But I know your are not dumb... so if you say it's exactly the same when you set it to N55 than when you set it to disable i believe you.... just don't know what could be going on... let us know if you figure it out.... |

Well, mystery solved. It is on, but it isn't as loud as the S55 or as I remember it...but it's on. Not sure if it came on or if I jodi-mind-tricked myself into thinking it was off when it really was on.
I'm assuming OL in the settings is the loudest setting? |

Yes OL is the class for the N55... not sure if it changing has actually any effect on loudness though
