Essentially, I want BMW apps and online browsing etc, namely to use spotify...do I need more hardware to enable this or just coding?

What about 6FL? I believe I need this to be able to update the combox? What else does 6FL offer and how hard is it to fit to a combox car? I only ever use spotify, never usb sticks or the stock music players on my iphone 5S or galaxy s6.

Also, am I correct in thinking that because it has a combox bluetooth a2dp will work? Can the bluetooth in these cope with having 2 phones sync'd at the same time so if either ring i can answer etc?

I want to upgrade the maps etc to latest but know that it might have to be done a certain order or might miss out on being able to enable 6NR?

You should contact Patryk at Bimmer-tech: http://www.bimmer-tech.net/

Your car is too old to have the combox installed from the factory so you will likely need to retrofit it. Patryk can tell you what all is needed and how much. Be prepared for a little sticker shock though.

For reference, my car isn't too old for combox, it was made the month that they started fitting them and was installed with combox from the factory as per the vehicle order I pasted in the op....this is under my boot carpet:



Bluetooth streaming etc is all working. I am only asking for bmw apps and potentially retrofitting 6fl

Combox was only available on cars built starting in March of 2011. I know this because mine is one of the first ones to have it. What you see in the photo there is likely the TCU, not the combox.

Edit, perhaps things were different in Europe though. In the US only 3/11 and newer cars came with it.

Indeed... Especially considering the bmw vehicle order associated with my vin, which is in the op, has s6vca "control combox" listed and Bluetooth streaming is active

In any case, Patryk will be able to sort you out. Just send him the last 7 digits of your VIN and what you want and he will tell you exactly what you need.
