Had the 1200 mile service done yesterday..........

The Diff Oil was changed and the Engine Oil was changed along with fluids topped off. Nothing major but here's my question? Those of you that purchased what interval do you plan on changing your oil? I was thinking of doing every 5,000 or 7,500. Thoughts? Also had the CF Shifter and Center Console installed yesterday, looks amazing. Super Happy so far with the X5M!

Congrats on getting through the break-in period. I still have 600 miles to go. When are you going to try the Launch Control?

I usually drive less than 10,000 miles a year, so I have the oil changed at least once a year. An oil change at 5,000 or 7,500 miles can't hurt, but it will cost you out of pocket.

That's great Joe. Thanks for the breakin info.

Can you share if the CF weave pattern of the console and shifter is an exact match to the factory CF weave.

DId you install them at the dealer and if so can you share the cost of installation.

Pics pics and more pics please.

Thanks

Since I disagree with BMW's absurd maintenance schedule, my plan is to do oil changes roughly every 5000 miles. This is the first vehicle I've purchased, and not leased, in a long time.

I plan on keeping mine until the next gen comes out. I too will be changing oil every 7500 (figure 5k may be overdoing it)

How are you enjoying post-break in? Whole different animal in that upper rpm range!!!!

Hi pal. The weave is perfect and it matches everything else in the car. Had the center console installed while I waited for the 1,200 service. It took 30 min to do, I would have done it myself. Here are the pics.

Forgot to ask about Launch Control! Crap! Thanks Steve for the reminder! I'll ask.

I'm with you, I plan on doing every 7,500 miles. I usually drive 12,000 to 14,000 miles a year since this is my DD. after speaking to a friend of mine at Mobil 1, he states that most synthetic oils start to break down at 7,000 miles. With that being said I'm only looking at a extra oil change a year. Not a biggie for me.

Owning 3 6er in last 4 years with the same engine platform (two F13 650i with N63/N63tu engine and one F13 M6 with S63tu engine), usually in less than 10,000 mile the oil change service indicator will turn on and you need to have the oil changed; Indeed today's cars (especially the high performance ones like M-Cars) have a very accurate and reliable system to continuously measure both level and viscosity of high performance oils (ie SAE); so don't worry about oil change or engine life since this built-in system will aware you when it's time for oil change. As far as Launch Control, during the break-in service dealers unlock the LC and now LC is enable and you can perform/activate it whenever you want. I'm interested to know how fast this AWD Powerful car can go 0-60 ... Like other current M cars (M3/M4/M5/M6) I believe this car is underrated too and can go faster than what BMW claimed on it's website...

To anyone who has done/watched someone change out the center trim and shift lever, how difficult of a DIY job is it? I'm relatively handy, but will be if I scratch anything in the process. I LOVE the look and the pieces are in the mail...

Is this something better left to the experts?

Also, I recently realized that my computer reset to an anticipated service interval of 10k miles after my break in service was completed. If memory serves correctly, all my previous (recent) BMWs have had a 15k service interval. To those of you who have owned previous M's, is this a recent development or have the M cars always been on a more aggressive service schedule? Thanks!

I don't have the F85 X5M, but I took apart my F15 center console. It is just a pull away. While shift knob is a screw away after you took off the panel.

BMW has now reduced oil change intervals on TT motors to 10k miles. BMW techs that I know tell me 1/2 service oil changes, trans and diffs around 40k. Being an ///m car the diffs should be done at 30k but the transmission will be on you. Had the wife's x5 trans done at 40k and the tech said oil needed changing.

I figure if tou can afford a $83k-$100k you should not worry about an extra $$$ for keeping it running

And that is similar to Mike Miller, technical editor of Roundel BMWCCA for longevity.
