what is this "blue box" its hitting? Is this to simulate hitting another car? vs a brick wall?

Wow that front end crumples a lot (which is a good thing). The passenger compartment looks fully intact. Looks really good to me.

That's the crash test done by EuroNCAP. So it's actually an organization of 5 participating countries. UK started it first and joined by Germany, Sweden, France, Netherlands and Spain) More videos of crash tests available at their official site.

This test was done by ADAC, the german AAA:
front crash: 64 km/h = ~40 mph
side crash (pole): 29 km/h = ~18 mph
