Has anyone installed a radar detector? I am thinking about it and wanted some suggestions on which one and where to get it done? Dealers wants $2k to install the escort 9500...

I recommend escort redline. With band segmentation it has the best range.

Not sure if it is a regular 9500 or the enhanced? Can you tell me the difference? I saw a youtube vedio where they said the wholesale on the 9500 is around $1,200 and it should be installed around $1,600? Just trying to gather information...

Escort Redline is nice, but I wanted something with Laser shifting. NJ uses Laser, and by the time you get the warning, they got you.

I've hard-wired my V1 into the rear-view mirror harness that is exposed once you unclip the black plastic mirror cover: green/brown wire for switched 12V, black/brown for ground. I had tested all other harness possibilities (map lights, SRS sensor harness), and mirror's green/brown lead was the only one that looses 12V as soon as ignition is turned off.

I used a simple telephone wire, and stripped red/black leads for power/ground. Or you can buy a mirrortap harness from Amazon.

Instructions and pics below:

a

P.S.: $399 V1's hard-wired to ignition in all my cars. Better sensitivity than 9500, fewer bells and whistles.

i run a v1 in my 3 and a 9500 in my 7.

I've got a 9500 on order at the moment. the bells and whistles ironically make less noise, 9500 makes a tenth of the amount of false alerts.
