For some maybe. From the Car and Driver First Look: "The only transmission available is the Volkswagen Group's seven-speed “wet” dual-clutch automatic. Sadly, no manual is offered"

Sounds like Ingolstadt is bringing a contender against its sister company's upcoming model and to match up with BMW's 2er. Good, the more the merrier!

I currently drive a 6MT S4 w/ quattro and a sport differential and I do enjoy it quite a bit but it's heavy and not ideal for track duty. Great DD though.

Also, only the sedan is making it state side. Personally, I'm not looking for a sedan, the hatch would have been more interesting.

Agreed. Prediction, M2 horsepower will at least be greater than 367hp, thank you Audi!

I test drove the S3. it had some turbo lag that I found troubling. Car and Driver just tested the Golf R (same as S3 really) and also commented on turbo lag. Maybe the RS# will address the lag issue.

This is in addition to R400. The heat is on for M2! 2016/17 will be great years for car shopping, new and used.

I have been reading up on this and the TT-RS, which should be coming around the end of the year I think? Both will be cars that I will test drive.

The RS3 is interesting because many people think the F80 is too big, but would enjoy the practicality of 4 doors. The RS3 might slide in there nicely as another option - I am certainly interested.

When Top Gear did some ride-along laps with one of the test cars recently, they went on and on about 1) how quick it was and 2) that the new RWD-biased AWD system allowed all kinds of "tail-out" excitement. Imagine if you could get 80% of your RWD feeling, but also have the peace of mind of AWD...

Should be fun.

It's definitely great to see more competition in this segment. There's absolutely no doubt that this will have some serious performance. Whether it'll be more fun to drive than an M2, that remains to be seen.

For me however, the lack of 6MT is a deal breaker. It really narrows my choices, but that is one thing I will not compromise on.

Sure would be nice if Audi threw us a bone an put a manual in...Guess the M2 won't have direct competition after all (well, for the 20% of US car buyers who want a manual). Pretty impressive how the manual-only GT4 allocations are selling.

If it was a 5 door, they'd have my deposit right now.

A 5 door rs4 would be bliss as well, but that won't happen because we Americans hate proper cars.

This is why BMW doesn't even need to do much to get me hooked on the M2, because there just isn't any real competition from the other Germans.

I really like the look of the RS3 sedan, it looks good. But the inherent driving dynamic of Audi will force me away from the car.
I will DEFINITELY test drive one though, but they just always so disconnected and boring as eff

I drove the S3, and cannot deny that I was very impressed, although I'm going with the 235 as I want a convertible. Each car has their plusses and minuses, but no matter what your preference, the competition is making everyone's game sharper...

The rs3 looks great in a hatch but looks like crap in a sedan. Also, the interior is too basic and tacky looking. I am not against Audi's I love audis and have owned one before, but really the sedan looks like crap and the interior is really boring. The best part about this car is the way that 5 cyl engine sounds.

Hatches/wagons of the premium variety and of the smaller Audis don't sell well in the US. The A3 sedan blew the fuck up in terms of sales. That is why the A Class/A45 AMG is not sold here, but the CLA/CLA45 AMG is.

Which is a shame, because a 1M 5 door hatchback or an M3 Touring would easily be my choice before an M2 Coupe.
