Seem like Dinan forgot us
Hello to all!
I would like to use this topic to show Dinan that there is demand for a 328d power kit. I've been contacting them couple time but it seem unlikely that we will ever see a power kit for the 28d. It seem like that the north american 328d share many parts with the euro 325d. So we can expect that this level of power should be easily attainable. The only restriction I see is the torque rating of the ZF8 (450nm). Who would be interested buying a dinan power kit for their 328d if the final product is within the usual 1499-1999$usd range? |

I'd definitely be interested if they can help the turbo lag at all on my 2014 328d xdrive here in Caanda.
I definitely want to keep engine warranty as I'm done dealing with out of warranty BMWs after my E90. |

I would be down. I am blown away with the recently popularity of diesels, that we haven't seen really any aftermarket support from any vendor. What about Evolve or Burger?

I emailed Dinan and got this response.
"We have been told we would start development on diesel applications this year but I have yet to see a diesel vehicle come into the shop for development to get started. At best if development started tomorrow the earliest we could potentially release a product for diesels would be perhaps in 6 months if not more then that." |

Update to my previous post about Evolve. It turns out their 328d module is not compatible with US cars.. I got this response from them: "HI Thanks for your email. The module does not work on the US cars at present." ***Update*** I followed up on whether it'll be something available in the future. They responded: "Yes we hope so in a the next coming months. Many thanks" |

Yesterday the Dinan Rep told the NJ BMW CCA members at Circle BMW that Dinan was going to focus efforts on a whole line of engine mods for diesels.

Probably an oversight, but you haven't posted in the main thread discussing racechip (http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=960658), where people have asked about problems/reliability/etc. |

Thank you reminding that thread. I saw that thread and didn't contribute in there since it is has been answered with the fellow RaceChip users.

For $1400 they better milk more than 215/330 out of it, I am getting that with just a piggyback right now. I'd hope to see at least 240hp/380ft-lbs out of a true tune adaption. That is if the transmission can handle it. Posting a review on my Chipwerke piggyback now.

Here's my thread.
No 1/4 mile times, not really my thing, more of a roadcourse guy. I did some 0-60s but will have to re-run them as I explain in that thread.

You're not paying top dollar for top hp and ft-lbs numbers. You're paying for Dinan testing, reliablity, and (especially) the warranty. If you just want numbers, stick with ChipWerke.

I am well aware of the costs and benefits in the tune market. LOL Heck, APR wants $1800 for an S4 tune....and that's with NO warranty. They also stated that they full on purposefully detonated a 3.0T designing their supercharger kit they are working on. Yeah, tune makers have R&D costs. The issue is a true tune should get MORE not less than a plug in piggyback. The tune has access to the entire ECU suite of controls and settings and can make more fine refinements and tweaks. A piggyback should cost less and deliver less as there is only so much it can do. The benefit there is saving money if the full tune is out of the range for that person and at least partial protection of the warranty from being able to remove it. When the tune is more expensive (by a factor of 5), offers less increase (or the same) and it's silver bullet is 99% warranty coverage instead of 95% it begs the question.....why? It's not about "just numbers", it's about comparison shopping and cost basis analysis. Chipwerke's reliability is there with many in the Audi world seeing them as an alternative to the vastly more expensive tunes and having been installed in dozens and dozens of cars for over a year. With data logged testing and trials with nearly all settings available. They aren't some fly by night flash in the pan upstart with no data or customer testing. My comment stands, Dinan offers some advantages over a piggyback not all of which is (but at least some of which should be) higher numbers. The benefits just have to equal the price difference.

Good response, Thumper. Sorry for my harsh tone. I'd like to see your review of the ChipWerke PB. Could you repost it here, or send a link?
I'd only say that, comparing the price and hp/ft-lbs numbers of the Dinan tune to a Steinbauer tuning module (aka piggyback) they're the same. But Dinan offers the warranty on top of the numbers. And a tune will be kinder to your engine components overall. I'm not familiar with ChipWerke so I'd like to learn. OTOH, there was a dyno comparo in the UK with bimmer diesels where the EcoTune came out way ahead of the Steinbauer, ACS, etc. for (what I think) was 50% of the price of the Steinbauer and 25% of the Schnitzer: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...highlight=road Here's the summary table: None of those cars are the 320/328d but the percentages are still valid.
