All this talk of DME failure after a tune has gotten me nervous...

I need to get a second car before I take the chance of my DME being down for a couple days. Don't worry though... second car in the works (chepo civic..)

DME failure ??
Out of thousands of users using the Jb4, one guy had a DME failure with no proof that it is related to a JB4 and suddenly the JB4 is now causing DME failures

I had my turbos fail on a completely stock car. Got them replaced then went FBO pushing 20 psi of boost. Been running strong for almost 40k ... I guess stock BMW tune causes turbo failure

Your really going to make me count aren't you....

28 current reported instances (4 of which reported after JB4 install) see below
-Not saying JB4 is root cause (one guy said it happened with Cobb) but it seems the tune may overwork the transistors on the MSD80, which there has been a service bulletin about this particular DME

I figured being a vendor you would be a little more understanding but guess not!

"Well installed my JB4 on my 07' 335i (88k miles) after replacing my spark plugs. Drove nice for a bit, got home, played with some options, decided to give it a go while it was warm, probably shifting 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th not sure its an auto, and all the sudden my car gets shaky as hell and low power. Throws the exact codes as in the OP's post - "

"It happened. Installed JB4 G5 ISO two days ago, car drove just fine for two days. On the third day car was just fine, I get almost to work and im going like 20mph in 2nd gear, I go to accelerate and car falls on its face. Pull into parking lot, Misfires on 1, 2 and 3, along with 30BA. Clear codes, restart car, still runs like shit. 30BA. Guess I fried my bank 1 mosfets."

Maybe do some research before flaming a post

Im not flaming you, just having a discussion.
If you truly believe what you just posted why would you even consider getting a JB4?

Do you want me to count how many turbo failures happened on a stock car ? hundreds if not thousands

Im not aware of the different cases that you mentioned so i will not blindly defend the JB4 but from what i have seen so far it has always been due to bad installation rather than the JB4 itself.

I understand the risks of tuning a car and are okay with them, I just want to be prepared for the worst which is why I'm waiting on the JB4. I dont mind replacing transistors, I just need to have a second car in case that happens.

Regarding Turbo failure and allllll other related problems with N54, I understand those risks as well and are okay with them, I wouldn't have bought the car if I didnt

I see.
Make sure you turn off your car and remove battery connection. Leave it sit for 10 minutes and follow the instruction guide step by step without skipping any steps and you should be fine.

Nice mod list, keep us updated

I think it comes down to user error for those failing. I'm sure it's not hard to fry it when you don't exactly know what you're doing and start plugging, unplugging, connectors contacting that shouldn't. It's never anyones fault but the part's fault right?

Just curious, why'd you go with a 2.5% tint? That's crazy lmao

Also why not just do the entire car a 20% tint for a cleaner look?

She's coming along great, only thing that really isn't my taste are the tails. However everything else looks good especially the gloss black roof wrap!! BTW are you going to put the sharkfin back on?

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah I'm sure that has something to do with it. In general the MSD80 DME has had problems even on a bone stock car so I think it is just prone to failure. I will def do what mike said and unplug everything and wait 10 mins before I even touch the DME.

Because I looooove dark tint the 20% up front actually blends really nice.
