Question E46 M3: 18" Square Setup - will it work on F82?

Hey all,

I've been using four E46 rears for track duty on my E46 M3 for the past 10 years. Now I'm updating with the F82 and am wondering if I need to purchase new track wheels. Does anyone know if they will work for both front and rear?

For reference, their specs are:
Size: 18" x 9"
Bolt Pattern = 5x120mm
Offset = ET26
Current tire size: R888 265/35-18

I want to make sure that whatever tire/wheel combination I use will properly fit and will not rub.

Thanks!

You'll have to try them on. The brakes on the F8X are quite big. The Enkei NT03 18x10ET25 wheels I used on my E92 did not fit over the front calipers.

Further, 9" wheels are probably too narrow for the F8X...

Agreed, 9" is not enough. Even 9.5's would be tight. Look to move to an 18x10 set with 275's or 285's.

I cannot comment on the sizing, but do consider that using wheels on track for that many years, regardless of how many hours you actually put on them, will pose some level of increased risk in terms of metal fatigue. This may the opportunity to get some new wheels in proper size

Try using the 513m OEM 18x10 rear wheels as square setup. You can run 275 or 285 square tires, just need 20mm spacers in front. These are about $660ea on getBMWParts and they're forged. Light and super strong for the track.

This is the setup I'm thinking of using for the track/street. I will save the 2 fronts 18x9 for my winter setup.

9" is too narrow buddy. Most M3/M4 guys run 10 or 10.5 square for track. Another option is Apex, you can't go wrong with Apex.

Seems like I'll be getting a new set of wheels

Thanks for the advice, everyone!
