Out of state dealer purchase

Curious, any NY based people purchased their vehicle from an out of state dealership that is not tri-state? e.g. European delivery with west coast dealership but doing a courtesy delivery in Maryland.

Curious if anyone has any experience with DMV paperwork required to register the new car in NY. Dealership mentioned they would mail the forms to my local DMV and I would go into take care of it. I'm a bit worried about sending something to the local DMV and expect them to actually do anything with it. The DMV has never been helpful and is always a nightmare to go.

So was hoping for actual experiences from people.

The dealership cant help out with it? I bought a car in Mass before, and they handled everything for me via NY DMV. Same with in PA. I guess west coast is a little different, but I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Thanks. Yea, I think its because a California dealership, they can not issue temporary plates for NY.

I am really just worried about sending DMV paperwork as the dealer is suggesting, cause I am doubtful the local DMV in NYC will know what to do with it. But then again, I guess the DMV have come a long way since I got my license, since I see they now have reservation systems too.
