Track noob need some advise

Hey

So I've never been to the track with any cars. Planning to take my m4 there soon :/

Though I've been reading this section of the forum and you guys all have "these" setups tyres/rims

Can I just go stock? With the normal 19" and pss?
Or is that bad

Any advice would be great! Cheers

you should track the car 100% stock and worry about nothing but these things

-have fun
-be safe
-learn to drive better

oh yea, and have fun!

no issues with the stock car. I tracked mine stock and have a decent amount of experience

Everything stock is fine but it's a good idea to flush your brake fluid with some high temp stuff like Motul RBF600/660 or Castrol SRF.

Please torque your wheel bolts down to spec before you go on track and between each session and make sure your oil level is correct, have fun!

Honestly for your first time on track the OEM fluid will be fine.

Also, make sure you only re-torque the wheel nuts when they are cold, NEVER when you just come off the track. And do not apply the hand brake, just park on level ground and leave in D after a session.

Stay very well hydrated.

Have fun.

no car prep other than what they outline in their tech inspection (they're all just about the same).

have fun, arrive early to all your classroom and track sessions, and above all else, approach the day with the greatest sense of humility you can muster.

Whenever I go to new track I like to read some guides, watch vids and play gran turismo to try and memorize the layout and learn the high risk areas so I can be a bit more conservative there.

It also helps a lot to ask experienced people for a ride in their car

I would just keep the car stock and go for it. Maybe ask around here for the hot tire psi to target for the stock tires (I think its 35psi all around?)

good luck OP!

+1 With everything that has been said. I would just like to add that "looking ahead" whilst on track will serve you well

Yes, all stock tires, fluids etc. is a good for starting out.

Biggest tech mistake I see for beginners is tire pressures. Take a pressure gauge with you and monitor them when you come off from your sessions. Shoot for 36psi hot. You will undoubtedly have to let air out as the day goes on.

Have fun and RELAX.

Thank you everyone for the advices! Really appreciated.

Though as a car noob, I must ask what is this "re-torquing wheel"

As in the bolts to make sure it's still tight?

Cheers!
