How do you remove the front BMW badge?

I am prepping my new M235i for a full front end clear film application and would like to remove the emblem so there are fewer seams. Any ideas if it is simply popped it with studs into grommets, clipped or glued on? I tugged a bit and it doesn't give.

Have you tried heating it up. it's probably a strong adhesive. Hair dryer or heat gun should do the trick.

You need the plastic straps that boxes come tied in. We use those at the dealership. You just place it under the badge carve the strap deeper towards the center of it and then just pull up. We have been using that method on every single bmw its the easiest fastest way.

Thanks guys. Another question, what do you re-attach it with? Is 3M double sided tape too thick?

It comes with pins. If you pull it the right way they should stay on

Well, as it turns out, the hood roundel is attached by a ring of adhesive tape. It took a bit of pulling to pop it off but it worked. The best way to remove it was to loop nylon string around the top and bottom edges and pulling straight up.

You just made a big mistake. Wish I'd seen this earlier. You may get your roundel back on but it won't stay.

I had to have a new bumper and the BMW certified repair shop told me they would have to put on a new roundel because the old one won't ever stay once it's been removed.

Your tech isn't paid to re-use parts! My Roundel isn't going anywhere!

What exactly did you use to reattach the emblem back to place?
Thank you.

I popped it off and simply reattached without doing anything. The "stickie" part on the back of the rounded pulled off cleanly from the car and it was able to be reapplied later. (In my case a few days later after the clear bra was applied to the front end.)

I guess I just need to be careful when take it off. so I do not damage the double sided tape for reuse.

Do you just stick it back on top of XPEL film? How well does it stick on compare to the paint surface?

you would trim the expel film and then place. You could also replace the tape if you wanted, that's what most body shops do, and then charge you for a new one.

Yes, right back on the Xpel. It's going nowhere. I even blow the moisture out from underneath with an air compressor after weekly washing.

Thanks for the good pics, very helpful. If I close the deal on a new vert this week will be ordering a new custom roundel was wondering if I should install myself or have the dealer do it. This seems easy enough.

It's a piece of cake. Block out 10 minutes in your day and your set. And block out 10 more so you can stand back and admire your work!

One question for you - do the alignment "nubs" for lack of a better term contact before the adhesive? So can you get it perfectly positioned easily before making it permanent?

Yes. No chance of getting it wrong. And if you just lightly touch it down, it can be popped up and off again and repositioned, if necessary. Once you are happy just push it tight.

Good questions, I wondered the same thing. But it's easier than you imagine!

Great, thanks again for the help. Trying to get a car to match dad's 2006 330ci (which has 32k miles if you can believe it). Got him a custom roundel made with his initials instead of BMW, I wouldn't necessarily just do the same for mine but since he'd get a huge kick out of it I probably will. Now if these thieving bastards at the dealership will just send me my paperwork...
