Quaife or M Perf LSD?

I have been reading a lot and trying to decide which way to go and it looks like both LSD's are going to cost around $2680 for either or per:

$2675 for M Performance LSD

http://www.getbmwparts.com/partlocat...subcat1=217025

And

£1681 ($2690) Quaife LSD

http://www.birdsauto.com/quaife/sear...23962&mi=M235i

Which do people prefer? Does the M Performance one void any part of warranty or does it save it? Opinions and recommendations would be great!

Hi ! I have the Quaife LSD and its working really well for me and Im happy ! That said I believe the M Performance part would be equally as good also , Either way it will be great addition to your car.

Warranty Im not 100% sure and I didn't care as its pretty hard to break a LSD !

Pretty sure warranty is void if you instal yourself. However if onstalled by bmw you get a 2 year warranty on the diff or the remainder of the new vehicle warrantt whichever is greater. This isn't a dinan part. It's actually BMW corporate warranty.

I know BirdsAuto is a couple hours away from me and I'm in the process of asking them if the price includes install. I know if I had BMW install the rear diff it would cost an arm and leg because it's in British Pounds. The Quaife was big back for the E9X's.

No, I don't think I'd attempt on my own.

Installing either by yourself will be very difficult. Even the M Performance, which is a complete unit, requires some special BMW service tools to complete. I know because I had planned on installing it myself till I found this out over the weekend.

Wow. I thought the Quaife would have been a value buy? Why not just get the M-LSD?

This. #1 reason I went with the MP LSD. Plus I got it for about $3200 installed at port. That and the BMW warranty for it. Not sure if I will ever race it, but I have heard there are SCC restrictions for some modifications not done by the manufacturers (dealers don't count).

The Quaife price is for it installed, and the M LSD I believe is just the LSD itself without installation. BMW installing it would probably rape me with prices as I live in England and the British Pound is brutal. Is the M LSD better than Quaife?

Personally I went with the M LSD to limit the hassle from BMW warrantywise, if something should happen.

However, it's still on my workbench in my garage and I have to find the time to get it installed by my dealer, who estimates it should take 2.5-3 hours.

That's a steal. My shop took 7 hours.

The MP LSD is made by Drexer and is not their top of the line lsd. Not saying is bad but I believe the Quaife is te better quality unit or should I say that the quaife is more for track application and the MP/Drexer is for street application...and as you know race applications are better quality than street IMO

BMW's book time on the job is 4 hours....if you paid 7, you got robbed.

In the Sticky topic ''BMW M235i M Performance LSD - pricing and technical FAQ'' it states that the installation time is approximately 2.5 hours.

I suggest you print it out and bring it along when/if you get the LSD installed at the dealer - it should put things in a more positive perspective.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying. What do you mean by quality? Durability? Reliability? Are you talking about % lockup on acceleration ? On deceleration? Torsen gear-type versus clutch-type? Maintenance? Lock-up speed? Noise? For drag racing or road course? Track only or streetable? Tendency to break under sudden torque loads?

Thanks for being smart. You seem to know more about lsd so maybe you can elaborate???

Quality as in overall quality. We already know the MP is not 100% lock. Quife website has alot of info already. But really depends what type of lsd you looking for right? So the question is does OP want a Drexler 40% lock clutch plate lsd or a quaife 100% gear system lsd

I'm sorry but lockup has NOTHING to do with quality. I'd say an OEM working with one of the best names in the business with a 4 year 50,000 mi warranty is quality. Keep the opinions to yourself, let facts do the talking.

Maybe you didnt read everything??

Warranty has nothing to do with quality either, thats subjective to buy from bmw or aftermarket.

Im just saying a gear system might be (should be) a better system than a clutch type...thats fact or opinion is up to the buyer. Unless you lay out your facts, everything here is opinion
