Sirius/XM retrofit

Hey guys. I'm looking at a DIY Sirius Satellite Radio install. Just searching around as my dealership is a little pricey. I'm wondering if anyone has used BimmerTech for their retrofit services. My 235i is prewired and they (BimmerTech) tell me its all software and coding that can be done in about 30 minutes (they include the cable, tech service via Skype and a year of Sirius). Just wondering because its about $275 for the whole process. Too good to be true??

Wow that's an amazing price. Please keep us updated. I would love to have this done for my M235i too. Is it a DIY install or does BimmerTech do it at their shop? I'm in Toronto, and I don't see a BimmerTech dealer in Ontario from their website.

It is a DIY install. As above the guys at Bimmertech send you the cable/software and then walk you through the coding via Skype. It is supposed to take 15-20 minutes and includes the all access year Sirius service. It is all software based with no hardware providing your car is sat ready. They have a good reputation for other retrofits.

Oh man. I smell a lawsuit from BMW. (Not to you, OP, but BMW vs Bimmertech)

I doubt it. Code is purchased from BMW. Anyone could essentially do it by purchasing the code and having the ability to install.

As promised her is an update on the Sirius Satellite retrofit from BimmerTech.

First of all I must say it was fast and professional and hats off to these guys for saving me/us some major cash.

I ordered the cable package from BimmerTech on Monday and it was shipped to me this past Thursday. Considering this was been done via the internet and coming from Poland that is extremely fast.

Once I got the cable I followed the simple instructions to Skype the guys at BimmerTech. From here it was a matter of loading a few files and programs onto my laptop to give them remote access to programming. With the cable plugged into the car they took it from there. More amazing while it was about 5pm where I was is that it was probably about 3am in Poland.

After about 20 minutes the job was done and there was the Sirius now available. They provided me with the Sirius ID number and 1-800 number. It came with a free year all access trial and internet radio as well.

Highly recommend it to anyone that didn't get Sirius with their car. $270 bucks well spent.

Thanks again to the guys at BimmerTech...despite my sketchy internet.

That's what I found as well here in AZ. I tend to side on the way of caution (most times) so I did the math and found:

1. Programming cable (eBay) $30
2. Sirius All Access $199 a year.
3. My complete lack of coding abilities...priceless

These guys did it for $275 remotely in about 20 minutes.

Why a dealer tells us its about $700-$800 and the car has to be there for most of the day for install and coding is pretty funny knowing what we know now.

I used Bimmertech for the remote install of Sirius also for my 428 and highly recommend them.

Hi there,

Sorry to post so late in this thread as I just took delivery of my M235 and I don't have Sirius as well. Would you know if you need to have the Premium Package for this retrofit to work? My vehicle was not equipped with the Premium package only the Technology package.

Thank you in advance!

I don't believe you need any particular package. If you submit your vin in an email to Bimmertech they can tell you if it can be done. Very satisfied with their work

No problems. Anytime I can help save someone some BMW costs I do. Now we can have extra money for replacing the tires once we rip em up.
