Phoenix, AZ - October 3-5 WHP Events

Planning a full weekend of Motorsports fun at Wild Horse Pass. October 3-5.

October 3: Friday Night Drags http://www.racewildhorse.net/events/

I plan to take my F82 down the strip for a pass or two. Stock 6MT, except for should hopefully have some Toyo R888 on by then. I have never done an official 1/4 mile drag race and have no idea how these "test & tunes" work, but should be fun. It would be nice to see some other BMW guys run too or at least meet up.

October 4 & 5: ProAutoSports WHP East Track

http://www.proautosports.com/

This is the road racing club I run with. I'll be there all day Saturday and Sunday. I'll be running my E36 M3 track car in the mornings in Orange group and Hot Laps, and will probably take the F82 out for a session or two in the afternoons. Stop by anytime, admission is free (they ask for donations though). $20 is the fee if you want to ride along. They have helmets you can borrow if you don't have one. You can ride with me or someone else in the club (that I trust ). Just look for my car(s), you can't miss them or me. I'm a big guy and I'll either be around my cars or stealing food from the old men racing Formula Fords.

...better yet, sign yourself up for the new member class on Saturday and put that BMW (or whatever you're driving) on a road course where it belongs!

Shoot me a PM or post here if you're interested.

Trying to get organized ahead of time. Seems like I'm always scrambling around last minute before track days. I have lots of experience with road racing, but am a complete noob at drag racing. Any tips for the 1/4 runs?

Drive around the waterbox, clean off tires, stage, don't care about green light initially as you can sit there for as long as you want, play with RPM launch points, the track is usually stickier than the street so you can usually get another 500-1k rpm higher on the launch. First run push the car 80% to get a feel of how it will be. If comfortable continue to push on the next runs to 100%. Bring helmet and have fun. If you start to spin into 2nd or 3rd let out.

Nice meeting you tonight. Not too great, but my first ever 1/4 pass. My start didn't feel too bad, but I got confused I think at the end and let off at the start of the trap. 12.8 @ 109.8mph

I'll be back again sometime, hopefully when they get both lanes working we can run against each other.

Much better showing for the M4 on East Track. Turned a 1:06.51 best lap and the car handled great! Not far behind my fully track prepped E36 which did a 1:05.321 (personal best) this weekend.

Definately can hang with Corvettes no problem with the M4. Actually most of the Vettes pulled off early in the afternoon sessions due to overheating, while the M4 stayed way cool at about 200 degrees. I even ran one session with the A/C at full max the whole time by accident (forgot to turn it off), and still the temp barely budged.

Nice! Yea the drag strip was in hideous shape and offered no traction. I got one run and my coil 5 decided to crap out in 3rd gear hehe.... 13.2@111 was the result still... pathetic. Anyway good meeting you
